Thumbs up cover band

by far, the best pink floyd cover around is "The Machine." They're pretty big on the east coast and HUGE in Europe, especially Germany. www.themachinelive.com

they are so insanely good it's almost like listening to the actual CD. They do the whole laser light show, and in some shows will play wizard of oz on the screen behind them. Hell, they're so go they even get the sax guy from the Roger Waters Band to play with them at most shows. Right now, Miramax is looking at them to play for the broadway production of "The Wall." So you can't get much better than them then to actually see Pink FLoyd.

These guys are awesome to their fans too. They'll play until they get kicked out. I was at a concert once where they played until 4 in the morning. By far, they are the best.

Re: Pink Floyd cover bands.........

Tonight I was attending a concert with the norwegian tribute band Dark Side of the Wall
The set list was:
In The Flesh
The Thin Ice
Another Brick in the Wall (Part 1)
Happiest Days of Our Lives
Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)
Breathe
Time
Breathe (Reprise)
Empty Spaces
Young Lust
The Great Gig in the Sky
Money
Have A Cigar
One of My Turns
Don´t Leave Me Now
Another Brick in the Wall (Part 3)
Goodbye Cruel World
Us & Them
The Fletcher Memorial Home
Hey You
Is There Anybody Out There?
Nobody Home
Shine On You Crazy Diamond
Vera
Bring The Boys Back Home
Comfortably Numb
Run Like Hell
The Trial

Encore:
Wish You Where Here

I was a little bit concerned because they didn't have their usual guitar player who is one of the best guitarists in Norway (He is working as musical director on the show of two of Norway's most popular comedians) But the replacement was great on most of the tracks. The band play the song the same way as the original but tries to put their own style to the songs at the same time. The drummer sings almost all the lead vocals. If Nick Mason had got the same voice Pink Floyd wouldn't have any problems to choose the vocalist on "Have A Cigar" and "Don't Leave Me Now". In addition "Fletcher Memorial" and "Nobody Home" was two great performances. In "Us & Them" they used speeches from George W. Bush and one islamist leader instead of the voices usual heard. In "Fletcher Memorial" the lyrics was changed a bit with the world leader's of today. I was "really drunk at the time" but the concert was great. It was a band I would love to see again. But IMHO a Pink Floyd cover band has to play Syd Barrett piece (i.e. "Interstellar Overdrive") before it is a true tribute band.

Re: Pink Floyd cover bands.........

Once again I attended a concert with the norwegian tribute band "Dark Side of the Wall", this time featuring Ian Ritchie on saxophone. Roger Waters and Ian Ritchie was in the audience when this tribute band played in Bergen the same weekend Roger had his amazing show here. I love the sound Ian Ritchie gets out of his saxophones. He said in an interview with the newspaper I'm working for that Dick Parry is his greatest inspiration. It's easy to hear the similarities. Also nice to hear a saxophone part on "Wish You Were Here". My favourite songs in the show was "In the Flesh", "Set the Controls", "Have a Cigar", "Nobody Home", "SOYCD" and "Wish You Were here".

The set list:
Breathe
Time
Breathe (reprise)
In the Flesh?
The Thin Ice
Another Brick in the Wall (part I)
The Happiest Days of Our Lives
Another Brick in the Wall (part 2)
Set the Controls for the heart of the Sun - feat. Ian Ritchie
Medley:
*Echoes
*Pigs (Three Different Ones)
*Welcome to the Machine
*Learning to Fly
*High Hopes

Empty Spaces
Young Lust
The Great Gig in the Sky
Money - feat. Ian Ritchie
Us and Them - feat. Ian Ritchie
Have a Cigar
Nobody Home
Vera
Bring the Boys Back Home
Comfortably Numb
Run Like Hell

Encores:
Shine On You Crazy Diamond (part I-V) - feat. Ian Ritchie
Wish You Were Here - feat. Ian Ritchie

Anybody seen this?
Beyond The Darkside - Home

I'm thinking seriously about going. $95 for three hours worth in full technical and audio regalia. Two full house standing ovations at the Sydney Opera House...

Re: Pink Floyd cover bands.........

Not really a cover band...but this is a pretty neat version of one guy playing Shine on you Crazy Diamond by himself!

He plays all the various instruments on the keyboard. I don't play the keyboard so I'm not sure how difficult it is to pull off, but I'm sure it took a lot of practice to learn it all.
