| Which One's Pink? I have a theory behind the song, "have a cigar". Now, I know it was written before the Waters dominations, but, I seriously believe it was Waters hinting to everyone that he is fed up with the rest of the band, and that the rest of the band is "riding the Gravy Train"...meaning, living off his talent. And, "Which one's Pink?", he's saying that he's really Pink, and Pink FLoyd. Its his talent the rest of them are living off of. Which, he proves after he left the band. But, I feel that this song is his foreshadowing to everyone, and the band that he's fed up with them living and getting credit off HIS talent. Then that whole debate of which one is Pink Floyd happened, and it did turn out that Waters is Pink. Anyway, this is just what I think... Roger is my favourite and always will be, and I kind of believe him about this song. What do you all think? ![]()

| Re: Which One's Pink? Quote:
First, don't get me wrong, dig Rog alot<Dave though is the man>, but if this is what the meaning behind the song was/is all it simply does is show it was the ego of Waters, which is what in fact almost destroyed the greatest band. Everybody, Rick, Nick, Dave, and Syd were also EXTREMELY talented musicians and each, not by his own self, but together, fused these talents they were given to make music that can never be matched. Together THEY were Pink Floyd and if even one of them had not been in that band<Rog included>the music would have never been the same. |

| Re: Which One's Pink? I wouldn't doubt Rog was probably feeling that way towards his bandmates by then, but I take it more at face value; a slam against the Big Record Co. Execs, giddy because they are "riding the gravy train," and so happy they can "hardly count." Supposedly one Exec actually did ask them "which one's Pink?" One can feel Roger's disgust for these pandering phonies.

| Re: Which One's Pink? Exactly, it was Roger critisizing the music execs, because even if they didn't know anything about the band, they would say it was great, and they were only in it for the money, and they were rushing them to come out with an album ![]()

| Re: Which One's Pink? Have a cigar is definetely a satirical piece aimed at the commercialization of the band by record companies and executives. I think this lyric most represents "We're just knocked out, we heard about the sell out. You gotta get an album out, you owe it to the people." I don't think it was forshadowing towards roger leaving the band.

| Re: Which One's Pink? Then of course he is the almighty Roger Waters. He could have planned it from the start.

| Re: Which One's Pink? have a cigar is sung from the point of view of a record exec. The "We call it riding the gravy train." comment, I think it is about when you have a money-grubbing guy behind everything all the decisions are going to be based on how can I make more money. And the "By the way, which one's Pink." I think it is saying those guys couldn't care less who they were getting to make money for them.

| Re: Which One's Pink? The song (and indeed, the whole album, Wish You Were Here) expounds Rogers basic disillusionment with the whole "Record Making Business." He's expressed as much in an interview in the Wish You Were Here music book. Basically, before the realisation of Dark Side, the band always wanted and craved huge international superstardom... always wanted to play the big gigs in the soaring stadiums. But... it wasn't until Dark Side and it's Trans-Atlantic success, and with it the trappings of fame, that the band (Waters in particular) began to feel the isolation that would lead through WYWH, onto Animals, and the infamous Montreal incident, to the Wall. Basically, the pressure on the Floyd to follow up the success of Dark Side comes significantly to play on the songs Have A Cigar and Welcome To The Machine. As for Roy Harper singing it... Roger would have done it himself had he believed he could sing. I've personally got nothing against Roger's vocal style...
