Question questions from student

Hey,
I am a high school fan doing a project on pink floyd. I am trying to get an idea of the influence the band had/has, and this is hard to obtain from the books. How has the band influenced you personally? I would assume you are all huge fans, but has floyd's music ever
changed your lives (life) in any way? Listening to Pink Floyd, I find a
recurring theme of the futility of war. Do you think this (or anything like
it) has had an effect on the world or on how people think? Finally, having
the talent and originality they did, how do you think they changed music? I
know many current bands that still refer back to floyd's music when talking
about their own (Matthew Good for example). Where do you see this influence
expressed in music made during or after Pink Floyd?

If any of you feel at all compelled to answer any or all of these questions
(or similar ones you may come up with), I would be extremely appreciative and greatful. It would be terrific if you could posat anwsers or email me kwright@mt-mansfield.com

Thanks,
Chris Wright

Re: questions from student

After Floyd??????

Last time I checked Gilmour, Mason, Wright were still a viable entity performing under the name Pink Floyd....

They're not dead yet.

Re: questions from student

How did you manage to get to do a project On Pink Floyd? I'd kill for a project like that! I think that Floyd changed music in they're constant tinkering with audio effects(i.e. distortion), and thier amazing live shows, which many say are the greatest ever. Almost no one can imatate Floyd, and even ones dubbed the new Floyd(radiohead) pale in comparison.

Personally? It's made me more of a cynical pessimist much earlier in my youth than one should have expected. Assumption is the mother of all cock-ups.

Not one jot. Rather, not on anyone powerful enough to effect any significant change.

Finally, thank goodness.
I sincerely believe they still have the talent they once did, but the originality may be a bit long in the tooth. I also believe PF were instrumental (pardon the pun) in bringing experimental "Rock" music to the mainstream and demonstrating to others the popular possibilities of plink-plink noises.

Matthew who?

Thank you all, many of your responses were helpful. And by the way, I in no way think floyd is dead. After floyd just referred to music written after they stopped (temporarily?) writing music. I like the albums gilmour wrote just as much as the waters ones. thanks again, chris

They're not dead yet. They're still moving! Some of them are even moving to recording studios. Hope this movement will be good for us fans.
