Question Should I be worried?

I was sweeping my porch today when this huge Crow fell out of this tree in my yard-dead. Upon further inspection, it's head had no feathers and looked quite scabbed. the eyes were glazed white. it had only dsied a second ago cause I watched it die in my yard. I took as an omen of ill but also wonder if it could be infected with West Nile. My town has no ASPCA or animal control so I'm a lil lost. I placed it under a tree. I feel strange now.

Re: Should I be worried?

You should report it to the authorities if you actually suspect it of having West Nile. If there is no animal control call the police, not 911, they will know what to do. Then again, if it happened to me, I probably wouldn't.

Re: Should I be worried?

It is a disease carried by mosquitos, it was introduced in the US about 4 years ago in New England and now has spread to almost the entire US. The way they track it is by checking dead birds. Once infected birds are found they practically carpet bomb the area with pesticides.

Re: Should I be worried?

My friend had West Nile last year. He went to the hospital and they sent him back home. Apparently it doesn't do much to you except for severe flu symptoms unless you happen to be 80, in which case it can be fatal.
