why psychedelic

What I wonder is why everybody (=not-pinkfloydians) uses so much the terms psychedelic, drugs,... in combination with Pink Floyd?
I get often the impression that many people see the songs of pink floyd as made under influence by drugs,what I really regret!
But I think, and i'm almost sure, that such great music couldn't be made under influence, it's just too good. Pink Floyd is much more then that, they didnt took so much anyway, did they. (with exception of Syd) What pink floyd made great was the talent of the band members, nothing else!
Pink Floyd is great, even without drugs, maybe even better!

I think most casual listeners equate PF and drug use due to the fact that THEY were under the influence when they were first exposed to the band.

And the fact that it is different, people say, "Oh, they must have been on drugs."
