Re: Your ultimate line-up?

Vocals- Peter Gabriel
Guitar- Steve Howe
Keyboards- Keith Emerson
Bass- Tony Levin
Drums- Mike Portnoy

...That might not work, but it would be very interesting.

Re: Your ultimate line-up?

I've come up with the best of all lists:

David Gilmour- Guitar and Vocals
Roger Waters- Bass and Vocals
Richard Wright- Keys and some vocals in a few songs
Nick Mason-Drums

It would be awesome if those guys got together and toured!

They could call themselves....ummmm....erm.....blue--no....red--no.....Pink, yes thats right. Floyd. Pink Floyd.

Re: Your ultimate line-up?

Going by my self-made rule of not having more than one member from the same band:
Vocalist: Ian Anderson
Guitarist: David Gilmour
Drummer: Keith Moon
Bassist: John Paul Jones (I'm not 100% on this one)
Keyboardist: Keith Emerson

David: I like your pick for Gabriel on vocals. It would be between him and Anderson on vocals for me...

And sorry about that DDT...I searched with no success, but obviously I wasn't searching hard enough...

Re: Your ultimate line-up?

Vocals: Freddie Mercury
Guitar: Jimi Hendrix
Bass: John Entwistle
Drums: John Bonham

Rick Wright could play keyboards if he wanted...he's the only keyboardist I've ever liked.

or, I'd combine the surviving members of The Beatles and The Who to create a super-group called The Whootles.

If you don't know:

Bass, vox: Paul McCartney
Lead guitar, vox: Pete Townshend
Drums, no vox, please, for the love of all that is holy: Ringo Starr
Lead vox, though I'd rather he didn't: Roger Daltrey.

Re: Your ultimate line-up?

very tough to discern for me. While certain individuals and members of other bands may be great at what they do, the bands sound as a whole will be a sum of the parts, some of which, no matter how good the artists, won't mesh. My guess is, it would be some combination from my 3 favorite groups, Pink Floyd, Led Zep, and The Who.
