Pink Floyd vs Tool

I was in english class the other day and the topic of "is tool a modern example of pink floyd" and I wanted to see some of your opinions on this one.

Anyway, i do see a sort of pink floyd attitude and indivuality as well as creativity in the lyrics..... of corse you cannot compare the two because pink floyd is far supirior for so many reasons that i dont even feel the need to mention.

*edit* i guess i should have been more specific....
" i do see a sort of pink floyd attitude and indivuality as well as creativity in the lyrics" - What i meen by this is that tool has its own uniqueness, LIKE pink floyd, as well as its own creative way of expressing its beleifs and thoughts through lyrics, LIKE pink floyd.

I think our opinions on this (and radiohead--a new Pink Floyd?) have already been done 26 times.

Why weren't you learning English?

Funny you should use the number 26 and mention the English language in the same post. There are, after all, 26 letters in the English language.

Re: Pink Floyd vs Tool

Okay, I'm gonna give an opinion on this. As mentioned, many think that Radiohead may be, but, not that I don't dig Radiohead, I do alot, but to be honest, dig TooL alot more, and think, as I've said in another thread, they are the new Floyd. To be quite direct, Floyd is the reason I really got into TooL too. The lyrical depthness, the musical uniqueness and the fact that no band out today even comes close to being able to match these qualities, brings a very striking similarity to both. But, to choose on who is 'better' would be unfair. Each are awesome and each show what music is all about.

OK, since we're talking about misuse of time spent in English class......

What words in the above post are NOT words?

Look it up folks, there is no "alot" in the dictionary.

There is an "allot", meaning to dole out, to ration, to give a share of something.

If you really enjoy something you like it "A lot" , notice; two words.....

And what the hell is "Depthness"?????

lol! You made him edit his post!

I guess, I always thought Tool was darker .... I can't explain it. More heavy I guess. They really don't compare to Floyd. I don't think their music is as original..

Re: Pink Floyd vs Tool

Tool won't rule. Pink Floyd are unique. Maybe only some band that started in the late sixties could have sounded similarly.

I can see what you mean, in the way they are both experimentally avdenturous, but I don't know much tool stuff, although I know Stinkfist and like that.

Re: Pink Floyd vs Tool

although i enjoy all tool albums (excluding Opiate), i dont think they've taken any ideas from PF in their songwriting. they are in their own category, as is PF, as is Radiohead, as is Sigur Ros, as it etc. etc. etc....

tool's full creativity wasnt achieved until after the recording/during the tour of Aenima. i enjoy alot of songs from this album dont get me wrong, but you can plainly tell a significant difference in their ideas and their view of the music on the Salival live cd. the songs 'pushit' and 'third eye' were redone for the better, as they truly show how tool has opened up to a more "spiritual" sound. this method is clear on the Lateralus album too. notice how dark and mystic it is, as with all other albums (excluding Salival cd), they have like a raw hard rock-ish method. it just seems like they've finally found the groove. its hard to explain, but as a fan i can tell the change has occurred.

but yeah, PF VS Tool......thats just ludicrous.

Yeah...they are sort've imcomparable... I mean it's hard to compare PF with any band...but if there was a band, that was newer, that had a similar taste, or effect, it'd be Tool. But then again, they're aren't as creative, nor musically ingenius.. something like that..

uuhgh! i disagree. tool is one of my favorite bands simply because of their creativity. if you read up on the methods they use when writing, and how detailed it is, you'd understand. i guess im speaking out of my ass from a musicians point of view, but i must give tool my highest level of respects.
