I would like to own an LP, I mean, who wouldn't, but I have a suspicious feeling that my Tele would still get more use, due to it's greater versitility. And a Strat is even more so.

I personally prefer Les Pauls, but strats are definitely more versitile overall. they can do all the clean stuff and you can get loads of different sounds out of them but if we're talking pure rock distortion tones then Les Pauls rule. For me strats sometimes tend to suffer from being a little too thin and weedy when it comes to rock. They are a much greater base point for effects though.

So personal opinions aside, they're about equal in grooviness, buy both and use them both on a day to day basis else you will anger the gods.
Yes, yes YES!!!! I love my Les Paul too. Like I said at the beginning of the thread, she's my baby. And when I use a lot of distortion, the Strat sounds really weak because it came with 9's. I'm gonna get it set up for 10's because it sounds deeper and cleaner. Heck, maybe I'll put 11's on it.

I have an 01 Highway 1, and besides being into the classic rock sound and all, I've been getting into the blues lately as well. And I thank my stars every time I play the blues that I bought a Strat over a LP. I agree with the sentiment, though, that the bridge pickup on Strats can sound too "twangy" (unless your picking chords and need that clean sound), but some good distortion (ie: The Big Muff, for instance) makes them killer. I'm saving up for a good tube amp cause I LOVE the way my guitar sounds through tubes.

My 2 cents.

Good old thread here.. I was just rereading it..and I realized something..

I bought a Les Paul about six months ago to compliment my Strat.. I do so love my Strat, I've been a Strat player for 25+ years...

But I really do love my new Les Paul.. It's an awesome axe.

Truth be told.. I can't imagine not having both now..

I love the crunch and tone control of the Les Paul.

You're right. Both are necessities.

Ahhh yes....Mine is the honeyburst. When I open the case and move aside the scarlet silk cover, my face lights up like in the movie Pulp Fiction.
