| Re: Time travel Quote:
The very crux of the biscuit. Indeed it is paradoxical when considering time travel on its own, for surely if travelling in time one must perforce also be travelling in space. In the case of Time After Time, HG's time machine was moved in, say, 1984 presumably from some museum in Britain to San Francisco thus depositing HG into the future but also in another location. But Britain, as well as San Francisco, in HG's time was in an altogether different part of the galaxy, universe, space than the same cities, the same planet 100-odd years later. Of course, if the universe is the scale, the difference would appear minimal, almost nil. Heck, it wouldn't look all that much different if the galaxy was the scale. Hmmm... ![]()

| Re: Time travel Three things I would do: 1. 1969: Go to the Beatles' Apple offices on Savile Row, London, W1 and make an ass of myself in their waiting room. 2. Go see a DSOTM show in '73 or so. 3. Meet Avril Lavigne before she got famous and make her fall madly in love with me. |

| Re: Time travel The problem is, you can't really do anything to change anything. Let's say you set out to kill Hitler, you do it before he comes to power, ok, but then how would the pre-Time traveling you want to kill Hitler if he was already dead, so then you wouldn't have killed him, then he would have risen to power, then you would have killed him, and it goes on.

| Re: Time travel That's where the theory of parallel universes comes into play. The NNJ who went back in time to kill Hitler would be from a universe in which Hitler had risen to power, but when you killed him the track of history for that particular universe would split and create a parallel universe in which Hitler had been killed prior to becoming a historal figure. Jeez, doesn't anyone read Hawking?

| Re: Time travel I read a few books. Quite interesting but requires some imagination plus you have to see Back To The Future to fully understnad it

| Re: Time travel There's lots of places I'd like to go. Visit the ancient kings and pricely states of yore. See the Holy Books being written down. I'd always wanted to be there when they invented the first Airplane. I'd always wanted to see and meet the idealists of the Oktober Revolution. I'd wanted to see the participants of the Great War. See the rise of Nationalism in Europe and witness the bloodbath that was the Second World War. Not to mention see the Indian freedom struggle. The telephone, generator, bicycle....

| Re: Time travel The notion of time travel is based upon the idea or assumption that time is merely another dimension, a fourth dimension on top of the three of our universe (that we know of). This means that time is no longer this immovable, inceasable force but a direction which is easily travelled through. However, given human nature, such a universe would be highly unstable, as someone could wipe out entire generations of families just by going back and killing your great great great grandfather.

| Re: Time travel i like the theory that it is impossible to go back in time but you can go to another era of time in a parallel universe. though there are of course the differences. that doesn't make any sense but if i read the book again i'd probably remember the theory in greater detail.
