[Warning: Lame Dire Straits joke follows]

Mark Knopfler was walking along a beach one day and found a brass lamp. So he gives it a rub, yadda yadda yadda, genie pops out but instead of granting him three wishes the genie says to him "You can either have this beautiful woman who will give you great sex every night for the rest of your life or this huge stack of money which will buy you everything you'll ever need."

Well, he goes for the woman and heads straight for the pub to tell his mates what happened.

"You moron" says one of them, "why not go for the money? You can get a good woman anywhere."

"Don't be silly" says someone else, "you know he prefers love over gold".

[End of lame Dire Straits joke]

Nice, Guy has his own site. Mark looks SO different now, from his younger years...

There was a very nice DS site I followed for a number of years (http://users.wineasy.se/daniel). Sadly, I know not what happened to it.

I dont like them. Because i think they lack the passion, and feeling about their music. Something like that. Its just to plain..

Dire Straits Is an Awsome Rock īn Roll Band. But I canīt compare them with Floyd because they are different things for me. I canīt see dire straits as a "Progressive" band. I think thatīs why Ablaze find them plain....

But... but, what about You And Your Friend, Brothers In Arms, Telegraph Road, Sultans Of Swing, Tunnel Of Love, Romeo And Juliet to name a few! No passion in any of those songs?!

Its booring, i dont like the happy tone on the guitar, i dont know. Its something that just turns me off. But if you see at the other bands i like you could maybe understand.
Floyd, Zappa, Sting, Zeppelin and Primus.

Are you seriously saying that songs like Brothers In Arms, Private Investigations, On Every Street, Love Over Gold, etc. have a happy tune on the guitar?

Anyways, I've been wanting to ask this question for a long time (perhaps I've already asked it).

EVer hear "You And Your Friend" from the album "On The Night - II" ?

What's that song about? The meaning and stuff?

I reckon it's Mark singing about a cheating girlfriend. What do y'all think?

Either we did discuss it once or I'm having a deja vu moment here.

Dire straits merit a bit more than just a musical history correction.
