No, no. You can hear the cowbell on 'Is There Anybody Out There?'. I know you can hear it on "Another Brick pt 2" towards the end of the song; "Young Lust", and "One Of My Turns". I'm sure the cowbell is on more songs, these are the only ones that stuck out in my head though.

Oh yeah.... that might be Willie Wilson, or perhaps even Andy Bown since Roger played bass on those songs.

That must've been one helluva show, cause the rest of us saw PF at Foxboro on May 8, 1988. Maybe the '89 tour was a tribute band...hence the extra people on stage.

Seriously, there were a few extras on stage - when you're packing two of every instrument plus three backup singers, plus a sax player...it adds up.

Still an awesome show - your dad is right about that one!

as to the Floyd I dont know for sure but I know that for the most part the Dead used two drummers for most their career, Bill Kreutzman and Mickey Hart. Jerry had been quoted as saying that it helped out for extended jams, and really gets the band moving like a freighttrain, which is good for some music and not so good for others. You can really have a good uptempo jam out but it is really harder to change directions when you got two drummers

Anyway, do you think the guy banging away on the cowbell is a percussionist also doing other things. Or do you think Floyd hired someone to JUST play the cowbell?

I know I enjoy it, it adds a new element to Floyd's music.Yeah
Here's a link to the SNL eposide - hilarious:

You try playing the intro percussion to 'Learning to Fly' with two arms! I have, and it realy doesn't work.

Re: Why two drummers?

Jumping in late on this one since I've just arrived at tis wonderful place

I was watching both Pulse and DSOT and then sat through the DSOTM documentary...just alot of stuff going on...double tracked vocals and guitars, added synths in addition to Hammond organ and piano...I can only assume that it was and is with drums also...my educated guess is that bringing in an addtional drummer/percussionist is to reproduce the drums as close as possible to what was done on the live recordings, plus get a fuller sound overall according to what they intended for the shows.
I don't know if anyone else feels as I do, but I really like PF live better than their studio recordings on most tunes.

Re: Why two drummers?

As a drummer myself, covering Floyd songs on a constant basis, I can tell you that alot of the stuff on the wall would be totally empty without a second drummer. For instance, the end of Happiest Days of Our Lives wouldnt sound nearly as good without it. Nick Mason is an incredible drummer, but some of that stuff simply cannot be done by one person. As for the backup bass player on the Wall tour, I still havent figured it out...But my guess would be he was probably added to complete the "Surrogate Band".

I think I'd be able to pick up the triangle too...incidently.

Re: Why two drummers?

Let's hope the owner of the next 'triangle' that you 'pick up' is half 'attractive' for a change
