Consider reading the original comic, instead. It's much more refreshing and interesting (meaning: less cheesy). Mind you, people, I finally saw 'Pirates...', and I had plenty of fun...of course, it's not exactly 'Citizen Kane', but oh well. Pirates make everything better, as I've always said. HUZZAH!

| Re: Haarg Mateys......Thar be Pirates About! yeah, i heard that they couldn't get the rights to Dracula or the invisible man so they had a woman that was bitten by Dracula (a survivor in the comic and vampire in the movie) and some dude that stole the invisible man's potion and drank it. crock o' sh*t. |

| Re: Haarg Mateys......Thar be Pirates About! Actually, the woman in the comic is Mina, from Bram Stoker's Dracula...she kicks a** in the comic, but I supposed they ruined that, too...(just like they ruined Quatermain, which is unforgivable)

| Re: Haarg Mateys......Thar be Pirates About! If it's any consolation, I used to read comics and gave them up. Along with legos and video games. I can't even stand to watch cartoons anymore. |

| Re: Haarg Mateys......Thar be Pirates About! Gather round, me buckos, for a tale o' the briney deep, of pirates and ladies fair, 'tis so, me harties. The cinematography was superb, the soundtrack excellent and fitting without a hint of anything modern, and the FX were good without being overdone. W'Ickky didn't like it much, but this old salt thought it was brilliant and quite refreshing an escape film for the masses. Fulghum is correct in all he says about the film but praises it not far enough. I told Dyders she would love it and I know the reasons why, but the rest of yous should do yourselves a favour and ignore W'Ikky's review and see it. Aye, 'tis true, Orlando's part was less than stellar, but come on, Orlando!!! Often seen wet and buckling swashes left and right is how to see him, and he gets the girl interested in him as well, so it can't be bad. The Deppster was in fine, funny form with a somewhat enigmatic characterisation of the lovable rogue priate. A bad guy, to be sure, but a good bad guy when a choice is available. Mr Rush even managed to convince in his role as the bad, bad guy. Very blackbeardy. Keira whats-her-name was okay too...I guess. W'Ikky - see it again, but remember The Deppster's character spent time on a deserted island and, apparently, went mad from it, thus informing his rather skewed nature in the film. But if you look closely, he portrays a rogue with a lot of intelligence hidden behind this ga-ga persona who's quick to take advantage of any turn, good or bad. He was brilliant. I loved it, but then I have always liked the sea-faring, pirate genre. Fulgher's fave scene was the buckling swashes between Rush and Depp near the end, but my fave was the very disarming seabed strolling scene. BTW, the film (subtitled: The Curse of the Black Pearl) is loosely based on the Disneyland ride - my favourite too - with several sight gags from the ride in the film: the dog with keys in the jailhouse, and the drunken sailor swigging his rum atop two wobbly barrels, and more. Good, harmless fun.

| Re: Haarg Mateys......Thar be Pirates About! One of my employees pointed out to me the other day that "Pirates" is the perfect guy movie because it has Pirates AND Zombies....... I didn't argue with him.. Glad you liked it Byron... It's just such fun..... Jack : Why is the rum gone? Elizabeth : One, because it is a vile drink that turns even the most respectable men into complete scoundrels. Two, that signal is over a thousand feet high. The entire Royal Navy is out looking for me, do you really think that there is even the slightest chance that they won’t see it? Jack : But why is the rum gone?

| Re: Haarg Mateys......Thar be Pirates About! Jack : Thank you, Commodore, for getting us ready to make way. We’d have a hard time of it by ourselves. Norrington: Set top sails and clear up this mess. Navy officer: With the wind a quarter astern, we won’t catch them. Norrington: We don’t need to catch them just get them in range of the long nines. Navy officer: Men, come about. Run out the guns. [to Norrington] We open fire on our own ship, sir? Norrington: I’d rather see her at the bottom of the ocean than in the hands of a pirate. Sailor: Commodore, he’s disabled the rudder chain, sir! Gillette : [the Interceptor bears down on his boat] Abandon ship! [they jump off just in time as the boat is broken up and sinks under the Interceptor] Navy officer: That’s got to be the best pirate I’ve ever seen. Norrington: So it would seem.
