I know this is old, but im new here so i thought i would share my thoughts. Not sure if we're just talking about the cds or the videos though, so ill assume videos included

I chose pulse, this was the first concert i ever saw and to be is the greatest by a mile. Lighting effects are out of this world, even better than on DSOT. I actually much prefer the way one of these days was performed on the pulse video, shame its not on the cd. And i think the extended solo alone makes me go towrds pulse, the greatest guitar solo ive ever heard, shame the crap bands these days dont even have guitar solo's, big dave gilmour is one of a dying breed

I feel that the reason daves solos are so great is that he has a lot of feelings in his solos. He aint quick and a god at playing hard stuff, but what he has in feelings and how he makes the solos they just become perfect. Its just sooooo nice.

Yeah well an opinion is like an asshole, everyone has one. Just glad to see someone agrees with me here since ive seen a couple of people say they prefer the DSOT version . Theres about 10 notes in the pulse version i love, where things really speed up, you have the view looking up at gilmour playing on the pedal steel, then u see rick hit the keyboard, lol, gilmour plays several high notes, sounds great. Plus i dont know if anyone ever noticed it but i think Dave wanted to be michael jackson at the dsot concert in new york, during one of these days u could clearly see he was wearing white socks with black shoes, haha.

I totally agree with what 'ablaze' said though. David Gilmour can play the guitar ultra fast, you see it in 'on the turning away' on DSOT video and on Pulse during parts of comfortably numb and probably sorrow too, but the main reason his solo's are so great is because they have alot of feeling in them, not just a guy who is considered a great guitarist because he can play a million notes a second.

You call that ultra fast? Tell me, do you play the guitar? Non of his solos are ultra fast, and thats why they are great.

Yeh i do play the guitar.

And have you ever heard comfortably numb on pulse b4? Because ill think you find theres parts where he plays a group of notes, then plays it over again, and if u listen and look, his hands are goings pretty damn fast. Even songs like coming back to life have parts of solo which are very quick. When the screen starts to move down in CN there are some really quick parts of guitar work there. Like i said, also in on the turning away. I think they are pretty fast, compare it to solos u get from bands like the red hot chili's.

Re: DSOT or Pulse?

when I want to hear live Floyd material I prefer "Is there anybody out there? " or any live bootleg. I prefer live music with more energy, and neither PULSE nor DSoT have that energy. But if I had to go for one It would be PULSE, Just for the Package and cause I prefer DB songs over AMLoR songs...

Re: DSOT or Pulse?

Well, even i can play those solos at that speed. Not any difficult. And who compares people to chillis? The only skilled guy there is flea. Let us take Page, he plays way quicker, and most do. And the pulse solo isnt fast at all, its almost like original with some added, i think its the solo ever, but it aint hard to play.

lol so your basically saying ur a really talented guitarist, if it wasnt hard to play ever one would be able to play it. I dont even see page as being really really fast, shit look at some of the stuff on another brick in the wall solo, i take it you can easily play them too. The chili's are a good band, but in all honesty i dont think much of flea, anthoney has a great voice though.

Not want to argue about it anyway, just personal opinion! Just saying that gilmour can play fast, but thats not what makes him sound so good!

I can play it, it's not really that terribly difficult. But even when I do play it, it just isn't the same as big Dave, and I think I know why - to him, that solo is his baby, and he just loves it to bits when he plays it...
