Do You Remember?

Do you remember:

who got the first color television on your block?

having your milk delivered?

not owning a radio or car because they weren't affordable?

Okay, for the young ones in this forum:

Do you remember watching the first Star Trek on primetime TV?

Do you remember 8-tracks?

I remember being a white kid in predominately black town , Durant Mississippi, and having all the white kids parents decend upon the school about 11:00 am on April 4 1968, and take their kids home. I was in 2nd grade.

My Mom showed up and took me home, I sat in front of our B/W television and watched the news about a black man in Memphis being shot earlier that morning, Memphis being about 60 miles north of us.

All the white kids stayed home the rest of the week.......scary times..

I also remember going to the Kosiesko (sp?) county fair in Mississippi in 1967.

I had to go to the bathroom and my Mom took me behind the show tents to get to the can. On the way back I saw this black man playing a big black guitar, We looked at each other (I was 7) and he said Hi. I said Hi back and started asking questions about the guitar. He showed me a few things about it, let me strum it, played a lick or two for me, we laughted and had fun. Before he left to go play, he signed a picture for me and gave it to my Mom.

Years later I found the photo in the bottom of a dresser drawer, I had completely forgotten about it.

It was signed....

Hope you get to play some day yourself...

Why did the white kids stay home? Was there a real threat to them?

Kick a$$ story about meeting Diddley. Have you kept the guitar or have you sold it?

The Black community in the south rioted for almost three days after Martin Luther King Jr. was assinanted, doesn't anyone study history anymore?

I met B.B. King, not Bo Diddley, as a child, and no, He kept Lucille, I just got to strum her once....

I Have met Bo Diddley though, two years ago....

Awesome stories & pics, Dave.

I not only remember the first color TV, I remember when they had little round screens about 8 inches in diameter.

I actually used (and still have) a slide rule.

Wow! Truly, truly awesome tale, Fulghers. While fixxy awaits Her Majesty's pleasure, you are now The Man!

I remember the rioting when Rev. Dr. MLK, Jr. was killed, and it went on for at least three days in L.A. as well. I can also remember the L.A. race riots in '65, and remember wondering why Boy Scouts (actually National Guard) were guarding the local liquor store, and also being fascinated by all the fires. Even my uncle's supermarket which he managed was razed to the ground.

I have never had milk delivered.

I never willingly watched Star Trek, but can remember the first episode.

I remember the advent of 8-tracks.
And my first super-hero, 8-Man!
