| Alright. Fulg did his classic rock poll, now it's my prog rock greats poll. Though some of you don't think Floyd as the best of the prog rockers, I decided to exclude them, since they would likely win in such a poll in such a forum. My choice? Can't decide...it's between Jethro Tull and Genesis, two very different, but very good bands. Note: Some of you may argue that Rush should be on there. Sorry, but they are not prog. Sure, they wrote a 20 min song, but that doesn't make them prog.

| Re: Best of the prog rock greats? Genesis, you can't make The Lamb and not be the greatest progrockband ever.

| Re: Best of the prog rock greats? Out of them, I'd have to say Yes. Although I'm not really a fan. They're Ok-ish.

| Re: Best of the prog rock greats? Yep there is, but there is a slight difference. This thread talks about the ''best off the greats'' while the old one talks about Progrock in general. So also new progrock bands like Dream Theater. And they wouldn't fit on this poll.

| Re: Best of the prog rock greats? Yes, thank you Lars. These bands are who all of the modern prog-rock bands are based off of; without them, there would be no Porcupine Tree or Dream Theater.

| Re: Best of the prog rock greats? Well... 1) I love Genesis and Peter Gabriel is an absolute genius... 2) Steve Howe is one of the greatest guitarist ever and Wakeman is amazing so Yes is awesome. 3) I grew up listening to Emmerson, Lake and Palmer, their Works Vol 1 album is just amazing and Karn Evil #9 was one of the first songs I ever learned to play. 4) All my Buds and I just loved Tull in High School and we snuck in to see them in both '77 and '79.. So.. I had to vote for .. King Crimson... Because I've met Adrian Belew (at a Peter Gabriel concert, go figgure) and he's a great guy..

| Re: Best of the prog rock greats? Yes for me. Chris Squire rules on the bass. Wakeman is the best damn keyboardist ever (just put on Awaken and hear him rock the Swiss church organ...). Steve Howe's style is so unique. And Bruford and White are both great drummers. I even like Yes-West (the Trevor Rabin years - phenomenal musician). And say what you will about the Elfun Jon Anderson - he still has a great voice. ![]()
