PF Cover Band: The Machine

Hey everyone! Hope you're having a good weekend. Anyway, I bought tickets to a Pink Floyd cover band show next weekend (The Machine) and I was wondering if anyone has every been to a show before and if so, what you thought. Also, at this particular show they're integrating Pink Floyd and Grateful Dead music....I'm not sure how that's gonna be (since I'm not a huge Dead fan)....so if anyone has any info/opinion about this cover band I would love to hear it! Thanks

garbage.... People who can't write or make their own music have to sing other peoples.... its different to do a cover song.
But a cover band? *shivvers*

why's everyone so bitter about cover bands?? Granted, they might not be the most talented or creative bunch, but they let us listen to live music that we wouldn't otherwise be able to. It's nothing like seeing the actual band perform, but if that's not an option then I don't think it's such a bad thing.

Ive seen them...

I've seen the machine, they are amazing. I was apalled the first time I saw them, how much they sound like floyd. As far as Im concerned they sound more like floyd than floyd does now (ie, no roger waters)

thats my opinion...

the dead floyd thing was ok, but not great, i like the machine more without them...

Just my 2 cents

Luke

Welcome Luke in Vermont.

I'd gladly give you five cents for that opinion of yours. Never heard of or seen any PF tribute band - not counting the horrible lounge act in Vegas who murdered Money - but it's gotta be at least worth a nickel.

I hope you enjoy your time here and discover, as have we all, many wonderful fans and facts involving whatever flavour of Pink Floyd takes your fancy.

Please read through as many of the threads here - over 3,600 - before starting any new ones. Duplicates suck. The search feature is useful to find most things already discussed about Floyd and much much more besides.

Share and enjoy,
BoaB

I saw "The Machine" back in 1992, thinking I would never have the chance to see the real thing (luckily PF toured for TDB and I saw them twice -- and no cracks about PF Music Ltd (1987) not being the "real thing.") The lead singer had some foot pedal-thing that made his voice sound like Roger or Dave (I think he was a "natural" Dave, though). "The Machine" did some lesser-played stuff: Free Four, Astronomy Domine, Breathe, Dogs, Pigs on the Wing I & II, etc. The lead guitarist didn't wander much from Gilmour's work, although he did play Dave's DSoT solo for CN. All-in-all a decent show.

Thumbs up The Machine is amazing!

Hi,
I have been lucky enough to have seen The Machine twice, including last Saturday, and they are amazing. They are the next best thing to The Floyd and know what they are doing. If I felt this good seeing the Machine, I don't even know how I be with the actual band. I hoe your Machine expierence is as fullfilling as mine were

Actually, The Machine is quite good. Glad to know that you base your opinions on things you see in movies. Movies are always accurate.

The Machine

I have also seen the Machine quite a number of times, probably upwards of 15. I see them every time they come to NYC. They really are incredible. I was very skeptical and first (not to mention bitter at the fact that I'll probably never see Floyd, and if I do it wouldn't be the Floyd I have come to know and love from most of their recorded work), but I decided to give it a try, and I was instantly hooked. All the guys in the band do other things musically (I think one of them teaches at Berkley actually), but they love to play Floyd music, and we love to listen to it. What's wrong with that?

Anyway, I'd reccomend anyone to go see them, I've never heard a bad review. They put on a good show and they create a very friendly, small scale atmosphere, something which many of the longest die hard Floyd fans never got to see the real thing do.
