There's no relation between the two. Cover bands try to sound as much like the original as possible, whereas bands playing covers usually do someone else's song in their own particular style. Tell them that.

There's a Tribute band down here in Houston called "Us And Them". They are by far THE BEST Pink Floyd Tribute band I have ever seen. The lead singer sound's just like Roger Watter's, and they have a high-tech set. Roger Watter's even liked them. Here's a link to their webpage, they have MP3's and pictures. www.usandthemband.com

I'm sure Roger Watter's is a very competent singer who will be hapy to hear that someone is intimitating his voice.

Lightbulb Covers with a difference

hi - I just joined - We are "Viet floyd" - and it's exactly what it sounds like - Although I'm an English born person - we are in the process of setting up our show for a performance at the Ho Chi Minh Opera House - to do - well Viet Floyd. All members (16 piece - bar 2 peope are Vietnamese.
The idea is to perform a 2 hour show and incorporating Vietnamese instruments as well as the core electric band.
The whole idea is to create a cultural link between East and West.
At the end of each song where you might hear e.g. "Hey you ... yes you laddie etc.. we will replace with street sounds of ho Chi Minh. similarly there will be a full visual production with a screen a la Pulse - and this too will show relevent DVD samples of Vietnam mixed with PF materials...
The band are all professionals. I have personally performed with a number of international musicians E.g. Neil Finn from Crowded House.
Anybody got any idea where this concept - when we have finished production and first shows - would sell outside Vietnam - we will of course have samples on dvd. - NOT FOR REPRODUCTION!!!
Cheers
Blood

My mate randomly do stuff from The Wall and WYWH but not a serious cover band they also do Led Zep, Deep Purple and Black Sabath stuff. A really good Pink FLoyd tribute band that I saw live was Think Floyd they also do some of there own stuff based on the PF sound it is an excellent show.

im 16 in a (makshift) band and im the only musician of the group. im a hugee floyd fan and self taught guitarist//bassist//drummer. ive taken piano lessions like all my life so i know theroy. we play hits such as time, wywh, breath,rp.,confort.numb. and thats about it. they cannot play with me and it makes me sad bc i live in a small town and i got no one else to play with. i know most all floyd andif i dont know it ill learn it real quick. anyways when i go to colage thats when im going to hook up with a real band and start making some real music. my band mainly just jams as in, just play we got no disipline.. anyways i think that that covering floyd is good and all but,, why would a band devote their whole musical carrer covering shit, as in usandthem, think floyd, etc. floyd was their own group with their own personalities, which you can watch develop threwought thier carrer. i think that cover bands that just cover and develop their name after the band is really stupid but yea thats all

I am in a Pink Floyd tribute band called "Brain Damage"

http://www.braindamageband.com

We should have some audio samples up by the weekend.

We do stuff all the way back to Piper and to the present day. The audio samples I will be putting up are Time Breathe, Money, See Emily Play, and Pigs 3 Different ones.

We have only been together for about 2 months but it is coming together very nice. We are going all out with a killer light show, lazers,, smoke, intelligent lighting, etc. We also just purchased a round light truss for behind the drums so we can project images and lights on it.

It should be real good.
