I agree, I just couldn't think of a better way to say it. For example, it seems as though it starts off with a couple bars of 4/4, then a bar of 2/4 then back to 4/4. Under normal circumstances, I would think the writer did this intentionally (i.e. Tool, etc.) But I don't know if Syd just felt like changing it a bit or if he even knew what he was doing ... |

Speaking of strange Barrett lyrics, I came across this one that PearlWaters should find amusing: (from "Dolly Rocker") "You want to meet Pearl? she's as cute as a squirrel's nut."

Syd never made mistakes. Just listen to 'If It's In You' and you'll see what I mean.

John Lennon did this too... he makes the meter serve the lyrics and not the other way around. He'll write the lyrics down first and then compose music for them, but they don't always fall naturally into 4/4 so he'll stick in a few half-measures and quarter-measures to get it all in. Listen to Across the Universe and try counting 4 in the bar...

Someone could check the lyrics in the CD booklet and see how it's divided, but I'm sticking to my opinion.

On a slightly different subject, I think I figured a lyric out. Syd had just returned from a vacation with some friends in the Mediterranean and suffered a terrible sunburn, and went straight to recording "She Took A Long Cold Look At Me". Apparently, Syd was pretty whacked out on holiday, and refused to put on any sunscreen. He was burning so bad, blisters were raising and popping under his T-shirt, until his friends pinned him down and covered him in Aloe from head to foot. Now think about the lyrics: "She took a long cold look at me And smiled and gazed all over my arm She likes to see me get down to ground" and "A broken pier on a wavey sea" "To be extreme just to be extreme" Perhaps one of the vacation revelers was a girl he had his eye on, and he recalled seeing her smiling face as his friends were slathering him for his own good. Hmmmmmm...
