My first exposure to Pink Floyd was "The Wall".

My uncle gave me The Wall cassette in 1980 and I was immediately hooked. "In the Flesh" and "The thin ice" were literally the first Floyd tunes that my ears ever heard. Seeing as how I was a kid...maybe that explains why I am such a scrwed up adult.

I literally wore that cassette out and was head over heals in love with the music. I then added DSoM, WYWH, Meddle and Piper to the collection. For a time, all I listened to was Floyd and each and every album got played to the point they were worn out.

I then read all the books and magazines I could get my hands on, purchased every album they ever released, began snapping up any RoIo's I could find and became a certified Floyd fanatic. During that period (roughly 9 years) The Wall slipped further and further down the depth chart (I would say it sits somewhere around 7th or 8th now) and the older stuff is what makes up the top 5.

I don't think I would consider DSoM my favourite but it has certainly remianed in my top 5 over the years (now in love for 23 years).

1. Meddle
2. Wish you were Here
3. Dark Side of the Moon
4. Animals
5. Obscured by Clouds

Of course albums may drop in and out and switch positions here and there from week to week. There are times when I get stuck on an album and just play the crap out of it. Currently that album is Animals. One of the more under-rated Floyd albums IMO.

A lot of people consider Animals extremely under-rated, but if that many people love it, how can it be under-rated? (just a silly question)
Anyway I think that DSoTM is a fantastic album, it's definitley one of the best, but I think I like OBC and AHM better. But it does change periodically, as my moods change

Cheers

Okay, 'Dark Side' just happens to be playing in my CD player now (after a week straight of listening to the Wall live 80-81, I needed something a little less Roger, ya know?). I must say, I have forgotten how real this album sounds, its has a very genuine feel to it. There are no 23-minute pieces on this album, which is kind of good because it allows for more diversity. I know that in other threads, I've denied the fact that 'Dark Side' & 'Wish You' weren't very dark, but after recent listens, I must say, these albums do have quite a dark side after all. I mean, "Time" and "Us & Them" have to be some of my all-time favorite Pink Floyd songs---->you get a real sense of the band as a whole, working together to create something great. 'Dark Side of the Moon' was definitely a career milestone for the band Pink Floyd.

DSotM is a wonderful album, but I agree it's not their best.

Each PF album is a different specimen of a rare and precious gem -- I find Dark Side to be the most vibrant and lustrous in my eyes.

I dunno, Dark Side could stand to use some conditioner. It should also blow-dry to enhance volume

I think it's more Meddle than needs to visit a Dermatologist - to have its fluff trimmed.
