Re: Dark Side of the Moon?

Hi, I'm New on this Forum.

Well My favourite PF era is Saucefull-WYWH(1968-1975), with" Wish you were Here" as their best album IMHO.
However ' Dark side of the moon' was the first floyd album I've ever REALLY heard and it is still one of my all time favourite. My Brother first played it to me when I was 12 or something, back in 2nd half of the 1980's...
I fell In Love...
I still think that 'Wish You Were Here' is somewhat underated in some parties.
Cheers Guys.

Hello archer!
It's great to have some new opinions and comments within this forum!
Keep it comin'
I love the 'era' you are speaking of --- but then again--- I love them all!
But I never thought of "wish you were here" as an underated album.
How do you mean?

Re: Dark Side of the Moon?

I think he's talking about how WYWH never gets alota recognition - from non-floydians,
as they think of DSOTM or the Wall mainly - because they were big hits - while WYWH is beautiful and doesn't really stand out to OTHER PEOPLE (not us man...not us)

Re: Dark Side of the Moon?

Yeah, Wish You Were Here is usually not the album thought of when a commoner (non-floydian) thinks of Pink Floyd. It's usually, "They did that 'we don't need no education' song right?" I also feel the need to state that Wish You Were Here is also my favorite album so far. I haven't purchased all their albums yet , so I can't say for sure. But I agree with you in the fact that Wish You Were Here was underrated.

Re: Dark Side of the Moon?

I'm new in this forum and I would like to say my opinion about some Pink Floyd's albums.

I think that is an uderestimated albub. Even Gilmour belives that the best part of Pink Flyd's work is WYWH. But what can we say about the other album like Meddle. What about Echoes? Is one of the best songs I have ever heard. I think that we can't talk about best alboums when we discuss about Pink Floyd's albums. Pink Floyd is not one or two albous but a whole spectrum of best songs, music influence and art.

Sorry about my bad english. (I am from Greece.)

Re: Dark Side of the Moon?

Welcome, Captain.
It's good to see some new people on this forum - hopefully you'll be active in alot of these topics. I respect your ideas that Pink Floyd should be looked at more as a solid piece of work - but i think the truth is that evolution takes place in everything - even rock bands. So though, i like to look at floyd in "Macro" sort of way, (and we should have a section on this forum to do so...) but, i think that sectioning it up into it's stages create a better view OF the whole -which is what it is all about to all floydians. Also - Pink Floyd has incorporated soo much into their concept albums - and lyrics etc...
that i feel we all must look at these and evaluate them - maybe not just what OTHERS think of them - but what we the fans think of them.

Welp - that's about it, and don't worry about your english!

Re: Dark Side of the Moon?

just wanted to add that I also dig meddle & echoes a lot and think they are among the finest works of floyd(after WYWH & DSOTM of course) and personaly I think that meddle is miles better then animals.
I also dig Atom heart Mother and saucerfull of secrets
and I REALLY like the live version of
AstronomyDomine on UMMAGUMMA!
I think It's much better than the one on "The Piper on the Gates...".
I also really Like Live at Pompeii.

No Problem For me Pat

Each man with his Favourites

However, I suggest that you buy meddle(happen to know you don't have it yet), and listen to it, Who knows, I bet you'd like it as well.

Re: Dark Side of the Moon?

I think that 'Dark side' and 'The Wall' are both overrated as the most popular albums. My dark side album was gathering dustfor awhile then I started listening to some live renditions and it is very moving and touching. I now listen to it more and would rate it very high among my favs. Unfortunately Dark Side also greatly over shadows some earlier albums that are arguably better. Namely AHM and Meddle. It does the same to its two follow ups. I never understood why 'Animals' is overlooked now. Maybe The Wall just had the same overshadowing effect. I would certainly choose animals over the The Wall on a desert Island.
sorry to get off the subject.

Re: Dark Side of the Moon?

I don't know if I would choose it over 'The Wall', but Animals is an awesome album. The way things are going here people are going to start listing their top 5 albums or something, so I want to be the starter. Here goes (these are just from the albums I own).

1. Wish You Were Here

2. Meddle

3. The Wall

4. Animals

5. Saucerful of Secrets
