Unhappy Ca Ira - a mistake?

How does everyone feel about Ca Ira, the Opera and who has a thought on the Overture if they've heard it. The Overture was premiered at the Whip Craic concert for the Countryside alliance. Personally, I wasn't impressed with the Overture. it sounded like the work of an over-keen 2nd year Music student and the trumpet solo you could probably find in a 'Tune a Day' songbook for grade 1 or 2. The critics may have been gentle on McCartney at the time of his 'Classical' forays, but I think that they will really enjoy giving Roger a hard time over this. Roger might think he is immune from criticism, but he is not. As fans, we should try not to be sycophantic. Admire Roger I do, but I am not going to praise something when I feel it is pretentious/5th rate/laughable. Others will probably criticise ME for stepping out with my opinian, but I'd like to know what other fans think about this particular episode of Roger's career. Ca Ira, a great new direction or a ridiculous folly?

I haven't heard it yet, but if a musican starts out with rock, they should stick to rock. Considering that he's trying to write a full blown opera as his first classical debut, it's a little over-the-top, like most Roger Waters events. He should write some small sonatinas or something first.

I didn't listen to the Ouverture and I'm not going to listen to it until it's officially released in the context of the entire opera. I have not great expectations, I admit , but I want to hear Ca Ira in its entirety.

I'm sure Rog is used to negative criticism.

He did release The Final Cut, Pros and Cons, and Radio KRAP

For starters, pro's and con's is a classic, better than any shit Gilmour released solo, the same with Radio Kaos. And the Final Cut is better than anything Gilmour was capable at the time.I didn't hear him shouting, hey lets put on bluelight,it's a classic Floyd tune.....Despite my admiration for Roger,I hace a horrible feeling over this. He's spent so long on it that I feel any kind of reaction besides adoration will set him back(and how much adoration do you get on an opera).I can't wait to hear it though, but I'm worried now after the first post!

The Overture is not the music that will blow your mind away, but I haven't laughed and it had good moments. I'll wait for the whole opera to come out.

'What we miss of Roger,' continues Gilmour, 'is his drive, his focus, his lyrical brilliance, oh many things. But I don't think any of us would say that *music* was one of the main ones. He was great as a conceptualist and lyricist, as a pusher. But he's not a great musician, our Rog, God bless him. He just isn't...'

I never said I didn't like TFC (though I don't like Pros and Cons or Radio What) I only said he should be used to negative comments, it wasn't exactly embraced by the critics.
