Re: favorite version of in the flesh

The one from the movie conveys the situation the best, but the brass band makes the instrumentation kind of weak. If it was the original album backing track to Bob Geldof lyrics, I'd be hiding behind the couch every time that song came on!

Re: favorite version of in the flesh

I would say the Is there anybody out there? version becuase in the movie Bob Geldolf screams the lines and acts disturbed. The album one is missing the sound of music on stage. The wall live in berlin just is missing the pink floyd sound.

Re: favorite version of in the flesh

I'd say ITAOT.

When I first saw the movie, I had listened to the album many many times, and the sound of Geldof's voice was annoying.

First track on the first disc of the Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs Wall double CD. Absolute perfection.

Re: favorite version of in the flesh

I'm probably the only person about who says "Live in Berlin" version.

I've never found the original to be a particularly outstanding song...nor has it ever been a song that has varied from version to version as far as sound or dynamic goes.

But the Berlin version (in the second half of the show) with those choirs and military bands in the background elevates the song to the potential it has never reached before or after.

Re: favorite version of in the flesh

i enjoy it in ITAOT the most because of how they start it while the guy is talking... I like it in the movie except for Gedolf's voice. It seems like they bring out the organ more in the movie version, which i liked

Re: favorite version of in the flesh

Gedolf's voice really doesn't fit at all which in my opinion ruins the song. On the other hand it doesn't bother me much because I was too busy watching people in the crowd.

Re: favorite version of in the flesh

I guess you are right. It would sound kind of crappy if Gedolf was talking and Roger's voice was heard.
