And then, as a gift to all their fans, Pink Floyd would then decide to give it away free to all those who take part in the 'Great Gig in the Web' forum.

Re: Pink Floyd "Best Of"

yep, as it turns out, as EMI squeeze the very last revenue out of 2 decades of cheated fans, it'll be "A collection of great dance songs" repackaged. No surprises(Ooops!! Sorry Thom!) there then.

My vote for the greatest package would probably be, like "Works", partially mixed also and should include:

1/Pigs on the wing (p1)
2/Astronomy domine (Piper version)
3/Burning bridges
4/Fearless
5/Comfortably numb (pulse version)segueing into....
6/the rumble after On the run and Time (Original version)
7/The great gig in the sky
8/Lucifer sam
9/The Nile song
10/Dogs
11/Childhood's end
11/Wish you were here
12/Stay
13/Us and Them
14/Any colour you like, again, segueing into:
15/One of my turns
16/Another brick in the wall (p3)
17/The last few bricks
18/Goodbye cruel world . (All from Is there anybody out there)
19/Pigs on the wing (p2)

"Nice"

Re: Pink Floyd "Best Of"

Should a repackage even be news? I mean they included it in their press release for crying out loud! If they wanna put it back out in a shiny new package to attract fans who haven't seen or know that thoriginal exists that's ok. But don't tell us fans that something new is coming out when its not. I mean its not even like its a repackage of an album, its a repackage of a greatest hits album.

This is all rumour. It's got to be, on MTV.com they even said "Floyd's only other best-of package, the ironically titled A Collection of Great Dance Songs, was released in 1981." Actual quote from MTV.com. Why would they say other? If its the same thing why use the word other? I hope to God this is all horsehock, just Dave trying to be funny.

Then again I've already admitted that getting the new album is low on my list of priorities, so what do I care?

Re: Pink Floyd "Best Of"

It would be nice to see the Floyd put together some music with their older cuts mixed in with some of the newer ones. I would rather see them put together some of their not so popular cuts.

Re: Pink Floyd "Best Of"

Even if they do release a collection of some of their hits it would at least show us that maybe they are in the works of putting together some new material (at least I would like to think so). If they do put out a collection of songs I would like to think they would gather a lot of the older music from Pipers and Saucer. Maybe even so solo projects from each member could get put into this. No matter how much I tell myself I will not buy another 'best of' from them but I probably will. I just can never get enough.

Re: Pink Floyd "Best Of"

I don't even tell myself I'm not going to buy a best of, because I am a fanatic in that I want all of the official releases. If anything new came out, I would be waiting at the store on release day.

Re: Pink Floyd "Best Of"

Too bad that's what record companies thrive on!

And there's no way to avoid it!

Re: Pink Floyd "Best Of"

I think it should be a 2 CD set! One with the obvious hits like these...

1. Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Part 1)
Is There Anybody Out There? (Would sound cool here going into...)
2. Another Brick In The Wall (Part 2) (Radio Version)
3. Money
4. Wish You Were Here
5. One Of These Days
6. Comfortably Numb
7. High Hopes
8. Brain Damage
9. Eclipse
10. Hey You

And then CD two would have a few of the lengthier classics such as...

1. Echoes
2. Atom Heart Mother etc...

Re: Pink Floyd "Best Of"

It WOULD be nice to have something other than "A Collection..", which has always seemed a bit thrown together to this particular enthusiast's ears. "Works", the Japanese compilation, on the other hand, gets the balance just right, comprising one or two classics with a few rarities(quadro mixes and Embryo), and it might be nice, for a band with such an extensive back catalogue to compile a slightly more leftfield "missed-hits" style release. If it didn't contain One of these days, I wouldn't be unhappy, to be perfectly honest. Incidentally, I've got a vinyl copy of "Collection" which is a watercolour interpretation of, partially, the "ummagumma" cover and, beguilingly, a landscape. It is an official Columbia release, but limited to Hungary.

Freak out, huh?
