Re: The MTV2 Travesty that is "Playback"

I'm watching the Mtv2 travesty that is the "Playback" of Echoes and considering suing M2 for emotional distress. Geez...I can't believe how bad that thing is. The fans could do a much better job of this kind of project, don't you think? Or did you get to see it?

This was such a wasted opportunity! I hate to think that any of these "kids" who watch M2 are thinking that this was an "official" Pink Floyd product, and are turned off by the unimaginative presentation of such stunning music!

The visuals were dull and uninspired, the sound level was crap (started off okay, then faded out as the show progressed until it was inaudible - or was that only on my satellite system, folks?), and overall it was plagued by pointless video effects that looked like some straight playing at being "trippy"...

What a mess.

With the Floyd's undeniably rich visual history, not to mention the rare concert clips and promotional vids that are somewhere out there, this could have been so much better. It just boggles the mind to think how this came about being so poorly done...

The RogerFan and I think a Wayne Newton fan or something got a hold of this project and sent it as far down the hole as they could.

I think we should try to come up with our own "unofficial" video for the Echoes CD. Heaven knows that the fans collectively have enough "rare" footage and stuff to put together a better presentation.

Or am I totally off on this?

Thanks for the kind words regarding my quote, Joker Wild (may I just call you "Joker"?).

Are you an official GW? Do you wanna be? Just check out my site, if you do...

LOL

I'm always on the lookout for new recruits! (and "new" video of the boys in the band...)

Cheers!

Re: The MTV2 Travesty that is "Playback"

Well, I watched the second disc of Echoes on M2's Playback last night...

Why do I do these things to myself? Why do I subject myself to it? I'm such an ever-hopeful glutton for punishment...

Anyway, it still sucked. Not quite as bad as the first presentation, but it certainly didn't live up to the possibilities that were there for it.

At least they played the videos for "Arnold Layne" and "High Hopes" in their entirety, and showed some video from the Final Cut video EP for "Fletcher Memorial Home" which was nice. The attempt to put "When the Tigers Broke Free" in its proper context from The Wall Film was admirable, but they butchered just about everything else.

Here's a note to M2:

Let FANS of the band handle this in the future, if you can. Your so-called "trippy" video static effects were annoying at best, tedious at worst. And showing the same few clips from the Delicate Sound of Thunder video with f-cked up overlays and "static cling" visuals over and over didn't exactly enhance the presentation of such excellent music. I recall doing better work in my high school video production classes ten years ago.

Sorry to sound so angry, but that really set me off...and yet, I watched the whole damn thing, hoping for a moment of redemption on their behalf...sigh...

What can I say...I'm the original GilmourWhore!

Re: The MTV2 Travesty that is "Playback"

Hey you two Gilmourwhore#1 and Joker! I was just skimming the forums and came across you two talking about having some old footage of the band and it's present/former members. Well, I don't know if either of you have ever heard of the old fanzine "Brain Damage"? Anywho, I got a video of Mr. Waters and Mr. Gilmour. Alot of old stuff with Mr. Gilmour. About 45 min. is nothing but him with his band in a studio doing the tracks off of his first solo album. The rest is tv specials and the like. But my point, is check out some of the Floyd fanzines that are around. However, "Brain Damage" I believe has called it quits. The bastards took my $35 for a renewal and closed up shop! Anyway, just thought I'd fill you in on that in case you two are looking for some videos.

I think that "The Amazing Pudding" fanzine is also still on the go.

Re: The MTV2 Travesty that is "Playback"

The version I have is VHS, NTSC, as I recorded it here in the 'States, of course.

All I would need is a blank tape, and about $5.00 to cover postage. For more details, you can contact me via my site, http://www.gilmourwhore.com in the "Contact Us" section.

Just let me know, okay?

Cheers!
