| Re: Underrated/overlooked/unappreciated guitarist tony iommi is great gitarist, if you hear him play live you know why. they don't call him the riffmeister for nothing. randy rhoads is also great. but he died of an unfortunate plane accident. before he even got to show his real talent.

| Re: Underrated/overlooked/unappreciated guitarist Quote:
Terry kath here is the biography While not a schooled musician in the traditional sense, guitarist Terry Kath displays in his playing and writing the irrelevence of formal training in regard to him, for Terry is truly a natural musician. Born January 31, 1946 in Chicago, Kath comes from a musical family. He experimented with the banjo, accordian, bass and drums before settling upon his main axe, the guitar. Influenced by the music of the early Sixties, Terry began developing his own style. At this time, he and Walter Parazaider joined a group called Jimmy and the Gentlemen. Two years later, he and Walt were asked to join another group that needed a bass player. Although Terry really didn't know if he wanted to switch completely to the bass, he bought one and joined the new band. In fact, he continued to play bass for the next four years, until Chicago was formed and Terry could finally return to the guitar. Terry's style cannot be tied down into any one category. In fact, his approach limits him from relying upon any one form of playing. As he explains, "The longer you work on a musical idea -- running it through your head and playing it out loud -- the more it changes." "Eventually, it can develop into something completely different from the original idea." Terry's compositions are primarily based upon experience. "I really can't sit down and write a fantasy tune, " he states. "Eventually, though, I hope I will be able to write a tune without having to live it first. Perhaps the writing will be the experience. " For example, his song "Alma Mater" on Chicago's fifth album relates the experiences of Chicago as a group during the past five years. He never pressures himself while composing to complete a tune. Often, he has found that a fragment from an uncompleted work will lend itself beuatifully to a new song. Terry feels that this flexibility prevents him from developing a mechanical sound. Terry Kath is not the sort of man who can easily remain content. He is always searching for better ways of expressing ideas through music. Never fully critically satisfied with the results of a recording session, for example, Terry's street naturalness and musical urbanity create within him a wealth of ideas that contribute to Chicago's increasingly upward direction. Terry Kath can also be seen in James William Guercio's ELECTRA GLIDE IN BLUE, in which he provides a totally unexpected conclusion to the United Artists' film. |

| Re: Underrated/overlooked/unappreciated guitarist Brian May. He's just amazing. I wouldn't call him too terribly underrated/overlooked/unappreciated, but I don't feel he gets all the recognition he deserves. |

| Re: Underrated/overlooked/unappreciated guitarist Anyone heard of Frank Gambale? Prob not, but he's a helluva player and a great teacher. Morse may still be with DP, I don't know. He's one guy who seems to have mastered about every genre of play.
