| Re: Underrated/overlooked/unappreciated guitarist Neal Schon - And I don't mean Journey!! His work with Santana and Abraxas Pool is brilliant and not generally known too well. His style is something between Carlos Santana and Eric Clapton, he's a good composer as well (i.e. Szabo) the late Shawn Lane - Fusion guitarist, his playing was very colourful, technically brilliant with a great feel. Check out Michael Shrieve's Two Doors album or The Power Of Ten.

| Re: Underrated/overlooked/unappreciated guitarist I think Ronnie Stolt (of The Flower Kings and Transatlantic...among others) is very skilled. He's got a sound reminicent of classic rock guitarists (Gilmour and Clapton are obvious influences), but he's got a contemporary sound. He rocks!

| Re: Underrated/overlooked/unappreciated guitarist Nah, Matthews is very highly rated...well, maybe not as a guitar player. But I wouldn't really consider him as any great guitar player. On the other hand, I've come to realize that Mikael Akerfeldt (of Opeth) is probably the best guitarist in contemporary music. Utterly fantastic, and completely overlooked.

| Re: Underrated/overlooked/unappreciated guitarist Remember when Cheese posted this pic and we all made fun of 'em? ![]() Well, the guy on the far right is Andy Timmons, and I've just discovered his genius. He can play any style, any genre, and do it brilliantly. I can't quit listening to his album, That was then, this is now. ![]() ![]()

I totally agree. I have said this before but the first Elton John's records are really worth listening. If you overcome the prejudices against him (he hasn't done much worth listening in more than 25 years) and you approach his early discography you might be gladly surprised. |

| Re: Underrated/overlooked/unappreciated guitarist I'd also include George Harrison. He was no Petrucci but he had a very tasty and melodic style. The solo in "Something" is one of my all time favourites. Simple but beautiful. |
