| Underrated/overlooked/unappreciated guitarist OK.. I have done the search, and racked my memory (or what's left of it) and I do not think this thread has been done ( is that possible?). I was having this conversation with a fellow guitar player at work the other day, and we had some interesting contributions.... Who, in your opinion, are some of the best guitar players that we never talk about? Who is underrated, overlooked, unappreciated..? Here are a few that we came up with.... 1) Davey Johnstone: Elton John's guitar player for 30+ years, Give a listen to Funeral for a Friend, Saturday Night, The Bitch is Back. 2) John Foggerty: Creedence Clearwater Revival. This guy was amazing. I love Run Through the Jungle, I put a Spell On You, and Willie and The Poor Boys. 3) Eric Carmen: The Raspberrys, The opening riff on "Go All The Way" will tear your head off. 4) Terry Kath: Chicago. This guy had roots in the Chicgo blues scene, and it shows. Listen to Poem 58, Jenny, 25 or 6 to 4. Your turn....

| Re: Underrated/overlooked/unappreciated guitarist Mick Ronson, who played with David Bowie from 1970-74. He was an awesome guitar player, and had a lead style all his own. Died in '94 of liver complications. |

| Re: Underrated/overlooked/unappreciated guitarist I think Lindsay Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac is pretty good. Maybe not flashy, but he has a good ear for what sounds right. I think Tim Renwick who backed up Dave on DSOT and PULSE is totally unknown outside of PeeEffers.

| Re: Underrated/overlooked/unappreciated guitarist Lindsay Buckingham is amazing...Just check out the live version of I'm so Afraid on "The Dance" CD or DVD.. I don't know that I would rate him as underrated/ovelooked/unappreciated. Guitar Player mag just had him on the cover a few months ago and dedicated almost half the mag to him.. Have you heard any of his new stuff off Fleetwood Mac's new dics...just amazing, you gotta hear "Come" and "Bleed to Lover Her".

| Re: Underrated/overlooked/unappreciated guitarist No I haven't heard any of Lindsay's recent stuff. Also, I didn't realize he was getting ink in the guitar mags these days, either. (I'll have to chase down that article you mentioned) You're prob right, he's apparentlly more visible than I thought.

| Re: Underrated/overlooked/unappreciated guitarist Steve Howe from Yes is very good, and adds a classical touch to rock guitar playing, which makes it sound like prog rock, which is what he plays! |

| Tim Renwick Tim Renwick did some amazing stuff with the IAN GILLAN BAND back in the mid-late '70's. Mike Keneally is a genius.

You rang? Anyway, I think Joe Walsh from the James Gang was excellent...I had another one, but I forget whom it was. Perhaps the lead guitarist from the Heartbreakers. |
