Hey,

Did anyone hear the new Syd Barrett best of and if so how is the unreleased song, Dylan's Blues? Is it worth buying the record for just this new song, if you live in the US?

If you don't already own it, I recommend getting the Crazy Diamond boxed set, you get all of Syd's official releases with lots of extra takes. Really cool!!!

Charade I Am,
Syd Barrett's Crazy Diamond box set comes with his two albums Barrett and The Madcap Laughs, plus the compilation album Opel. It's no longer available in North America , but you can get an import on Amazon.com.

I find it interesting how Syd's released so few albums but the record company still manages to release a couple best of albums. Trying to suck up as much money as possible out of his fame, I guess.

Yea - i understand you Radiochair - i'll look around for that box set.

I understand about the "money sucking" thing too (though i must say i'm glad a compliation came out since i have none of syd's stuff besides some singles).

HEy Roger Waters should go make an album about how EMI is sucking up money through Syd's Memories.

He could call the first one...

EMI on Wings...or something.

Just Kidding - and Roger (if your listening) no offense! alright bud!

I actually am Roger Waters and take great offense to your rude comments. I will see that you are removed from this message board and banned from any future tours I may have.

I just ordered 'wouldn't you miss' me from amazon the other day. I live in Canada so it may take a couple of weeks to get here. I do agree ( Radiohead and Charade ) that it is nothing more than a money making gimmick but I just couldn't Help Myself!

Radiochair - you really scared me

Just make sure you put j/k or something when you joking - so that people know, cause some people are wierdos and would take offense or something.

I'm waiting and waiting for it to come in stores!!

Hey Charade I Am,

I'm sorry I didn't answer before, I'm having a lot of work to do lately. But anyway, the "Crazy Diamond" boxed set is a must have, I think, for any Syd fan. It's awesome to hear some of the takes for his song, you can actually have a feeling of how they evoluted, and also of Syd's state of mind (including how high he was )at the time.

For instance, on one of the takes for "She took a long cold look", he goes completely out of tune, he can't reach the higher pitches. Then you check out the song that was released and see how he just dropped it a little. At first, I thought it was a bad taste to include that take on the boxed set, but then I thought it was actually cool to see how things went.

I have mine for 4 or 5 years, so I can't tell if it's really out of the stores in the US. You might want to check the information out on Syd'd releases page...

Anyway, shine on!!!

CrazyDiamond

I have now heard 'Wouldn't You Miss Me' and can say that it is quite good in my opinion. Many people probably won't like it because of the simplistic songs as many of them are just Syd's vox and his acoustic guitar. Takes a couple listens to really get into it.

Seems kinda like most of the alternative takes we have on Syd's boxed set. Really simple and at the same time AWESOME. Like the Beatles songs, you know? Simple but effective.

So how's the new Bob Dylan's Blues?

Cheers,
Paulo

D-man, from what i've heard of Syd (not alot but not a little) - i don't think you could really compare it to the Beatles - i think Syd had alot stronger concepts in mind, even from a stoned err, mad, err, whatever Syd was - even in his mind.

Pat, I think what he meant was how some of Syd's outtakes are really basic like some of the Beatles outtakes which can be found on their anthology series.

Bob Dylan Blues is actually a good song. It was probably one of my favorite songs on the album. The album is worth picking up if anyone hasn't heard any of Syd's solo stuff to see if you like it.
