Re: pipers at the gates of dawn

I just can't seem to get enough of this album!
I have always considered myself a huge floyd fan and I don't know how this album escaped me.
I received this as a gift about 6 months ago(being pretty much the only floyd album I don't already have)and like I said, I can't hear it enough - I am in love.

I agree - i've heard alot of it ( i don't have it yet!!!)

And i like most of it.
Beautiful stuff mostly - some is not as good as other floyd stuff - but i won't go into that as much as i did for DSOTM!!! (Check the other thread).

Re: pipers at the gates of dawn

Piper at the Gates of Dawn is a different Pink Floyd. It's hard to compare them to other albums because most of it was written by Syd. It's a very good album, showing that Pink Floyd is excellent under all the controllers of it's history. I bought it just a few weeks ago, and i can't seem to stop listening to it. But i can't stop listening to other albums, so i guess it's not that different in that respect.

Re: pipers at the gates of dawn

YEa - it shows so really good Syd Barrett stuff. Some of his solo work was better "Here I Go" - but some was worse. Radiochair has the right idea - once u get a new floyd album you just can't keep it out of the player!! But after a while it works itself into the other albums and you just fit it in as FLOYD.

Re: pipers at the gates of dawn

When I first got Piper, I toootally hated it. I was like "Duuude, this is crap!" But of course, I left it in the CD player and kept on playing it all week until I loved it. >_< And I do love it. Barrett had a very interesting vision for the Floyd.

Re: pipers at the gates of dawn

I agree Random Guy - some stuff u really gotta love Pink Floyd and just keep on listening to like it.

...though that's kinda rare....cause i like most of what i here.

But most everything before "meddle" is more or less kinda "strange floyd" - a variety

Re: pipers at the gates of dawn

I don't know if I would call it strange Floyd. Maybe it's normal Floyd and the later stuff is strange Floyd. That would be the logical assumption because something new is usually referred to as strange. But I know what you mean Charade.

Re: pipers at the gates of dawn

Yea - i guess not "strange" - but rarer floyd - not the stuff u here on the radio or nothin' (though the stuff the play on the radio is usually not my favorites - just classic good pieces everyone knows. The bad thing is they won't play obscure pieces from "Animals" or "Piper" - it sucks!)

Re: pipers at the gates of dawn

Actually, just a couple weeks ago I heard Sheep on a radio station from Vancouver, B.C. Canada. I forget the specific station, but it's a rock station which plays lots of Pink Floyd.

Re: pipers at the gates of dawn

Q-107 in Toronto has what they call A to Z weekends
Every weekend 1 specific band is featured and thay play one of their songs about every 4th song.
When they have the Floyd A to Z weekend I don't get much sleep.
I mean I have just about every album , but there is something so cool about the anticipation of what they are going to play next.
Maybe it's 'cause you know other people are Floyding out at the very same time as you.

Re: pipers at the gates of dawn

Q-107 is a pretty cool radio station. I understand what you mean when you hear Floyd on the radio and feel you have to listen to it, even if you own the album.

Re: pipers at the gates of dawn

I would like to say something about the "strange Pink Floyd". I think that nothing is "strange" when we talk about Pink Floyd's music.
Almost every album is defferent from the others. And this is one of the good things which Pink Floyd has. I mean that music must be evolvable.

Re: pipers at the gates of dawn

Well Captain - you've managed to contradict yourself - don't look at everything so relatively - just flow man - and reply as you would - "strange" is ever present as is everything -can't stop it even if we're floydians - i invite you to be open minded and not contradict your eariler posts!!!

-no offense! -
Patrick ( i rarely sign my real name -so consider yourself honored  j/k)
