Re: The Moon and the Moon

Has anyone ever had a momentary lapse of reason? You know when everything in life seems makes sence, even for about a minute. I am not talking about the feeling you get when you are stoned (although similar. On June 7 1995 I experienced that incredible feeling. At the young age of fifteen I had experienced a moment I could not discribe to anyone. At around 7:00 that evening I had arrived at my grandmothers house out in the country. The front yard of her house faces the southern horizon where you can see the city lights. I had already seen Pink Floyd almost a year previous at the Silverdome in Detroit with their first ever performance of "Dark Side Of The Moon" since Knebworth 1975. Anyways, I had the Dark Side Cd blasting through my walkman and "Money" was segueing into "Us And Them". My grandmother and I pulled upto her driveway and into her garage. When I got out of the car, I felt a chill down the back of my spine. Weird, I thought to myself. I closed the door and proceed towards the side door when I looked up towards the southern sky, and there it was. To the beautful Hammond Organ intro of "Us And Them", a Half moon surrounded by thick white fluffy clouds. To this day I have never seen the moon that colour that size and even that shape. Even though this sounds like an incredible acid trip, this was way before i experimented with drugs. From the intro to "Us and Them" up to the end of "Eclipse" I stood and watched as the sun went down. Since then, I have spent many summer days, smoked many drugs trying to recreate that particular day. It never worked. As weird and wonderful as this story is from that moment I knew what I wanted to do with my life. Today I have a degree in Jazz Piano, and I am currently enrolled in school to be a Recording Engineer, thanks to that one moment that changed my life. Thanks David, Nick, Richard, Roger and even Syd

Re: The Moon and the Moon

I hadn't realized this topic had led to a online pot-smoking community.

But it doesn't surprise me.

Re: The Moon and the Moon

Hey, Wrightkeys, where have you been? I just read your story, and from RWr fan to RWr fan, I have to say, that is one amazing moment.

I've just recently begun to enjoy a wonderful keyboards-experience of my own.

I have never been able to read sheet music, no matter how hard I try. I can hear the melody easily, and even though I can hear the chords as well, I cannot remember the sequences or fingerings.

But a few months ago, I discovered a wonderful thing while I was looking for information on another instrument I wanted to play: the guitar. This thing was chord notation--most of what I used coming from Mr. Dallagnol's site!

Suddenly, I have found myself able to play at a level much higher than what I was doing, picking up songs at a very rapid pace (compared to my previous pace, at any rate).

Wrightkeys, it may not seem like much to you, a person who's actually lucky enough to have a DEGREE in piano, but to me, it is utterly amazing. I have gone from being lucky to manage anything that even RESEMBLES a PF song in several weeks...to sitting down yesterday, looking at the chord printout, and mastering that pattern that very day. I am still working on getting the exact patterns of keystrokes correct, but having this rapid mastery of the chords is something I have never known before.

I used to believe after I reached a plateau several years ago that the keyboards were simply beyond me. I am starting to believe again that I might actually be able to really play.

I will never be of Mr. Wright's calibre, of course. But I now realise that I sold myself somewhat short.

The past few weeks have been nothing short of beautiful.

So Wrightkeys, where are you? It seems that there aren't enough of us around--fans of Mr. Wright, that is.

Re: The Moon and the Moon

I had a similar experience. Went out for a run, it was a full moon night, a cool wind was blowing and a few scattered clouds covered the sky.
Just as I reached my building I was standing outside catching my breath before getting some streching done. Then I looked up and saw the moon through several pine trees, clouds were crossing it and were painted brownish-orange. A cool breeze hit my face and just then I heared the stereo system from my room which I forgot to turn off. Pulse was playing, 2nd CD, and it reached Eclpise by then. I had such shivers running down my spine, just stood there for 10-15 mins before I went in. Forgot to do those streches and felt it the next morning
