Re: General Forum

Yeah, I Adore Clapton!
I am exploring Clapton's music right now, maybe because I'm learning the guitar and also because I like great music.
I already Bought disks of him with the Yardbirds,Cream,Solo(including the unplugged), and the rainbow Concert. He's one of the greatests, Together with David Gilmour.
I also like Pete Townshend with The Who, Steve hackett with genesis in the 70's,Jimmy page(Led zeppelin,Yardbirds), Brian May, Mark Knofler, and many Others.
I recetly Bought A CD of Garry Moore called "Back to the blues" which is excellent.

i haven't and don't have much Clapton Stuff - if you would recommend one to get which would it be?

One as in album of "cream" that is prob. their best - and one solo album that stands out.

Re: General Forum

Patrick,
For the Cream Try "the very best of"CD, It has
Crossroads,White room,Sunshine of your love, Wrapping paper and other classics.
as for eric clapton, if you're looking for the electric sound, Go for the Rainbow concert CD.
If you're looking for the more new stuff together with old stuff, or maybe more acoustic sound, Try the Unplugged, They are both excellent.
I would recommand you to buy 1 Cream CD and one Clapton CD, as a start.
Another good CD, if you're looking for the basics is "Five Live Yarbirds" from 1964,
But in this case listen before you buy, Best tracks are
"Too much monkey busniess",
"Smokestack Lightning", and "Louise".

Sorry for the NON Floyd Content Guys & Gals,
just trying to help a friend...

Re: General Forum

I don't want to start any "Guitar Wars" but I have on very good authority that the Rickenbacker 4005 bass guitar is in fact the best in the world.

Fenders feature largely in many bands because, I am told, they are far easier to play and are basically very boring intsruments which is why all the processor boxes are attached to them for strange effects.

So get yourselves a "Ricky" bass and a Gretch rythm.

Floyd on!
Byron

p.s. The only Fender I want to hear is Gilmour's. He's my hero, but respect to Clapton, Page, May, Jeff Beck (another great!), Prince, etc.

Re: General Forum

Excuse me But I used to Learn Bass Guitar Once and My Teacher had a Fender, and The Fender Sound is something that you'll never achive with bass guitars like Ibanez for example. Anyway, the fender Bass Guitar sound
is clean and Beautiful.
Plus, My current Guitar Teacher says that
Rickenbaker is good for Chords playing, but for solos Feneder is superior.
So don't Go down on Fender,Me Myself I like both Rickenbaker & fender, and actualy had a trouble to decide which one to ask as a birth day gift(and i still have 5 months to go...).Truth is, I don't feel comfortable
with the Gibson Neck design, so the Only Gibson I'll buy(If I ever have the Money)
is Les Paul, But I'll never say It's a bad Guitar!

Re: General Forum

Okay, okay. Respect to Fender and Gibson (yeuch!). In any case it's horses for courses.

You pays your money, you gets your ticket, you takes your chances.

Contentious comment no. 1: Snowy White plays Fender just as well as Gilmour. (Dodges all the bricks thrown his way)

"Standing by in quiet desperation is the English way."

Re: General Forum

Some people just ask for trouble. When you know how violent this forum gets why would you say something like that.

I agree with you by the way.

Re: General Forum

I know, I know. I just can't resist sticking my fool head above the parapet, hoping against hope I don't get it blown off.

It's the adrenaline rush, you see. I'm addicted to thrill seeking. Hey, I listen to The Pink Floyd, after all.

Cheers,
Byron

Re: General Forum

I suppose you guys all know, being that most of you seem to like Clapton, that Gilmour nicked the guitar sound for "Any colour you like" from "The badge"?

I'm not familiar with Clapton's stuff at all, to be honest.

Is "The badge" any good?
