Stereo and mono mixes

Since I've recently obtained the "Early Singles" disc from the Shine On box set, I've had a few questions about mixes.

First of all, I was wondering what mixes of Arnold Layne and See Emily Play have been used for compilations:

Relics - Sounds like stereo... I could be wrong
Echoes - Also sounds like stereo
Works - Sounds like mono. Could be fake stereo
Early Singles - Definitely mono.

If I'm wrong on any of those, please correct me.

ALSO

Were there stereo mixes made for "It Would Be So Nice" and "Point Me At The Sky"? I would think yes, since "Julia Dream" and "Careful With That Axe, Eugene" are both in stereo on Relics. But I've heard nothing of them. So, do they exist? And if so, where are they available?

I don't think that there's a true stereo mix for IWBSNice and PMATSky.

They're probably sitting on a 1/4 inch tape reel somewhere in Abbey Road's archives, waiting for the release they'll never get.

Does anyone know which mixes were included on the "Masters of Rock" LP released way back in the day?

There was a stereo mix of Apples and Oranges on that one. You can get a good sounding version off of Have You Got It Yet? (volume 2, I think).

Yeah, I tend to shy away from the bootlegs though, unless there's a really good one containing the stereo mixes of all the early singles and their B-sides.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks it's probably about time that Abbey Road released some of the more... how shall we put it... esoteric? songs of the Floyd. Or at least a few delicious Whitman Sampler rarities.

"A Tree Full of Secrets" is a massive 18-cd bootleg that's very widely available to download, and it has all the different mixes of the early singles you could possibly want. But if you insist on getting the official releases...

"Arnold Layne" and "See Emily Play" are both in mono on Relics, The Early Singles, and Echoes. There were no stereo mixes made for those songs (except for the fake stereo ones on Works and Masters of Rock). There is also an acetate version of "See Emily Play" (with an extended fadeout) floating around too.

"Apples and Oranges" definitely has a stereo mix (Masters of Rock) as well as the more common mono (Early Singles). Its flipside "Paint Box" is easier to find in stereo (Relics) but the mono version (Masters of Rock) has a longer fadeout.

"It Would Be So Nice" is in mono only (Early Singles), on Masters of Rock it's in fake stereo. Same with "Point Me At the Sky". "Julia Dream" is in real stereo on Relics and mono on The Early Singles. Same with "Careful With That Axe, Eugene".

"Candy and a Currant Bun" is only in mono (on The Early Singles and Masters of Rock). There's an acetate of this as well, it's edited to be shorter and has different vocals. "Scream Thy Last Scream" has stereo and mono mixes, "Vegetable Man" has one stereo and two different mono versions.

Got all that?

you need to know that almost everything available on compact disc or on vinyl from about 1968 and up is stereo. The only mono mixes of any Pink Floyd I know of are the first two albums and singles because it says right on the back of my covers.
