The Wall is the most compelling of all of the lyrics. The concept simply would not have worked if the lyrics were boring. The album would have been an 80 minute dud. That would have really sucked. -Led

I tend to think that The Wall and TFC are the best examples of Rog's lyrical style, along with select other songs. The Wall, while a great concept and planned nearly perfectly, is overplayed indeed. I used to love the album, but I've heard it so many damn times that I lost interest.

too real for imagination? i'd have to say that the lyrics in the wall might seem a little bland simply because they are so blunt and grotesque at points...something that i think rog likes to do with his lyrics quite often. i personally like this style of his though...and like everyone else has already said, it goes w/ the story.

I would have to say that i do find the lyrics quite compelling. its an excellent album in all respects...the lyrics and the music itself go together so well. i find its quite a moving piece...just the emotions flowing through it all...the despair, the anger, the anguish. its one of my favorite albums of all time...but i tend to listen to it 1-2 times a month, just so i dont get burnt out on it.

I'm actually surprised there are a lot of Floyd fans in here that dislike "The Wall". "The Wall" is what got me into Pink Floyd, and sure DSOTM is masterpiece, but personally I think "The Wall" is better. And to answer the question posed in the thread title, I think the lyrics are brilliant. Furthermore, I think the music is equally brilliant.

Indeed, the musical compnent of the Wall was the most compelling, especially side 3; but the lyrics, especially mother wall, and brick references were very well thought out and developed. As their only concept album which featured a (somewhat) developed plot, the lyrics simply needed to be compelling and rich to make the finished product worthwhile.
