Yes keyboardist shamed and tarnished reputation on Japanese ultimate gaming fun show!

OK. Here's what happened. I was watching Bonzai on TV last Sunday, and if you don't know what it is, it's a crazy show where you bet on stupid stuff and you play it with friends to see who wins. It's on the FOX channel. Well, one of the games was to see who of two keyboardists could play a chromatic scale all the way up the keyboard and hit a tap light afterwards the fastest. Well, one contender was some schmoe from a band called Level 42 or something. And then the other was the illustrious Rick Wakeman. The famous keyboardist from Yes, which wasn't mentioned on the show. Maybe japanese people have a problem with saying Yes out of context or something. Well, the Level 42 guy went from the lowest note and played to the highest and hit the light in 9.1 seconds. Then Rick Wakeman did it and it took him 9.5 seconds. So shameful........I taped it, but I can't really post it on the internet or anything. My dumb TV card doesn't work well.

Japanese television is worlwide known for its high quality in show formats...but also, for its antics and overall crazyness.

His technique might not be what it used to be, but he still does play some wicked solos! Besides, what have you heard to materialize this opinion? It took me a couple pokes at some recordings to get into the music, and maybe you just need a few listens, too.

I just confess that I don't touch the 80's stuff, since half of the band is gone by then, and those Buggles guys creep me out.

rick wakeman now hosts Live at Jongleurs on paramount,
wearing crap jackets and occasionally shaming himself further by doing crap keyboard accompaniments. oh, and name-dropping YES as often as possible...
the cringe factor increases by the day...
