Three Great Bands

When it comes to my daily dose of mellow classic rock i go straight to the floyd. but when i need a break from my usual classic rock listenings, i like some other great bands. Metallica, Smashing Pumpkins, and Nirvana are my favorite newer/heavier bands. I guess the last two aren't so much heavy, but if you want to talk about these three bands, talk about them here.

Out of those three, I am only familiar with the Pumpkins and Metallica. I heard a Metallica live CD with an orchestra, and I thought that was pretty good. I'm starting to get into Pumpkins a bit, and I actually think they are better when not so heavy, though Bullet w/ Butterfly Wings is one of their best songs. It's also kind of neat that one of Billy Corgan's main influences was Pink Floyd. In fact, I heard that he tried to make Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness "The Wall of the 90's" Though I don't think it got to that level. Anyone see him play "Wish You Were Here" with Floyd at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony?

Nirvana did kind of bring back the old ritual of smashing up instruments, though. That's how I link them to the Who in my mind. Though musically, not even close.

I'm not saying I don't like them, it's just a lot of their stuff kind sounds alike and gets old. But smashing instruments is a big plus.

I remember when the bassist got hit with his bass at the MTV Video Music Awards. Looked like it hurt.

That LEGO video was awesome. I used to make homemade LEGO movies when I was younger, and they were pretty wacky. Most didn't have much of a plot. We had one that started out as a western, but ended as a Beatles video. Another was with a Doom style video of a guy shooting Dr Who characters. Others were a bit more brutal looking, but funny.
