Smile Gilmourization madness!!!

Ok Now I'm A Guitarist. And As Fan of Pink Floyd, I try to sound like Gilmour as much as possible, especially the old, early days(Geez have you happen to notice his effects rack and pedals on the Pulse Tour? Frightening!). So I decided to track down his equipment at the time and purchase them at my local music store. Up to date, I have a 70's white stratocaster, a Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Face, A Crybaby Wah, A hiwatt Head and Fender stage 100 head (housed in a rack like Dave ) with a Marshall cab (I can't use the WEM ones as seen at Pompeii cause they're rare and hard to get), a MXR Phase 90 and a Ibanez Tone-Lok Chorus/Flanger pedal. The Only Problem is the famous Binson Echorec. Can't seem to find it
Does anyone here who is a musician and tries to do the same as me, trying to sound Gilmourish?

Re: Gilmourization madness!!!

I think that's a pretty rare piece of equipment you're trying to aquire. It's pretty old. While I think it's cool you're trying to sound "Gilmourish," you should also try exploring your own style. But it looks like you've got a wicket set of equipment right there!

Re: Gilmourization madness!!!

as cool as dave is, i dont think it wise to try to copy his every move and sound, etc... you definately should try to add your own input. after all thats what music is about.. (without going into commercialim.. thats what *real* music is about)

unless your planning on starting a tribute band.. then by all means, copy, but only if your good.

Re: Gilmourization madness!!!

Um...real music? Is that as opposed to imagined music?

Pink Floyd is still one of the most profitable bands in recent music history, therefore they are amongst the highest of "commercial" bands and for the most part produced real music.

Think on and look sharp,
Byron

im aware of that, i was thinking more about the people who exploit popularity by producing music for the sole purpose of making money.

sorry for the mix up.

What I mean is I'm not exactly copying him. The proof is that I have a Ibanez pedal that wasn't used by him. Plus my style, is a bit more hard rock driven, almost Deep Purple-ish. But why I use most of the stuff he uses is that I LOVE the sound he gets. So I guess It's alright.

great equipment, but i wouldn't spend all that money on someone else's stuff. Make your own sound! but i think someone already said that.

You mean unlike the way Pink Floyd Mk III could be accused of exploiting their popularity by making TDB, PULSE or ECHOES?

Re: Gilmourization madness!!!

Oh Calm Down Byron......

Have you looked into any of the new digital emulators? I have recently acquired a Digitech RP200A.

http://www.music123.com/Item/?itemno=110497

It's quite the little piece of technology. There are quite a few on the market today that you can interface with your PC to download effect models and waveforms off the net..

If you cannot locate the vintage piece, this may be a good option for you. In the long run it will be more cost effective as well.. Buy the unit once then upgrade and download software as your needs change.

i LIKE the db... and i dare say the other albums serve more purpose than, say nelly, 50 cent, or that dreaded spears girl. it is a chance for younger music fans to discover the magic of old music, as well as serving as a chance for older blokes to have many of their favorites in one place.

Re: Gilmourization madness!!!

What lofty purpose does PF or any other "old music" producer serve which could be said to be any loftier than new music producers'?

Re: Gilmourization madness!!!

well.. the producers always get their cut. and its usually large. (why the beatles went indie, they found they were getting ripped off, therefore came apple) to tell you the turth, im not sure where this is heading, other than the fact that i dispise the music that the producers are making the most money off of right now. for many reasons. pop and rap are crap. (in my humble opinion.) therefore i dont see why people like them so much, and why such ridiculess amounts of money are being made off them. thats my point.
