Extra Sensory Pets

has anyone noticed that dogs & cats seem to have psychic abilities? ( no I'm not tripping )

I have suspected this for some time, & I saw a TV show where a video camera was set up in the home of pet owners returning home

every time the ppl would return (even at different times of the day), their dogs would get anxious & excited, somehow knowing their masters were about to walk thru the door, even when the ppl were still miles away

+ how do lost pets find their way home over hundreds of miles, as has often been reported?

Re: Extra Sensory Pets

ESP my eye!

It's a fact that dogs have incredibly sensitive noses and can detect smells from miles away, with the right wind. I sometimes wonder how dogs in cities cope with the chaos of odours and aromas assaulting their senses. Bloodhounds must have it really bad.

Cats I don't know about, but suspect some other scientific explanation.

Re: Extra Sensory Pets

Also dogs have keen hearing. I used to have a German Shepard/Chow mix (Mutt) who could hear my car coming (amid all the other traffic) probably 5 minutes before I got home. At least I assumed it was a hearing thing. Maybe my dog really was psychic.

Re: Extra Sensory Pets

About hearing the car come home, my family had a couple of cats that would get excited when they heard my dad's car come home...for some reason, we seemed to have cats that behaved like dogs. I think it might have been because my dad liked dogs and practically trained the cats to become substitute canines.

OK. You and J have your revenge.

As for strange behavior by cats, I had a cat once that used to climb into trees and try to "chirp" like a bird. (was fairly convincing, too) I assumed he was trying to lure lunch, since he loved to eat sparrows. Kind of the Ted Nugent of the feline world.

Re: Extra Sensory Pets

We called him "Heinie"

He also liked to catch field mice, then "store" them so they could "age" properly, then enjoy "mouse-jerky".

Re: Extra Sensory Pets

Yeah, when no one is home, my cat will get up on her hind legs and start drinking beer. Then she checks out the sports page, gets angry, and curses in cat lingo. I've got it all on tape.
