Hello Floyd fans out there:
I'm new to this forum, and I'd just like to express my feelings concerning the historical "Live at Pompeii" concert. I recently acquired it from Amazon.co.uk, and it was one of the most exhilarating 'jewels' I've ever seen. It is the last chance we'll ever have to watch Pink Floyd at the height of their creative powers, performing their early songs in versions slightly distinct from the ones recorded on the studio albums, with an incredible mastery of the means at their disposal, and displaying an acute sense of artistry on that superb 'live' show! Since I got the full length version, there's also the added treat of being able to see the group working as close as they've ever been on the famous recording sessions of "Dark Side of the Moon", and giving candid and revealing interviews concerning their work and career - the only one not being interviewed is Rick Wright, strangely enough (maybe he was too shy to agree to appear talking on camera). All in all, the tape shows us a band still not spoiled by the huge success they achieved shortly afterwards, and stripped off the super-star and inaccessible status they acquired since!
It is a piece of history of the band not to be missed by any true hardcore Pink Floyd fan, believe me.

Radiochair - go back and read Yoav's "History lesson" - at least 1 person needed it.

Water's Bugger - beautiful.

i'm looking to buy pompeii. Should I be wary of an incomplete vs. complete version. I only knew of one version but I have seen several people mention the "complete" version. I would hate to buy it twice because of an incomplete version.

The one thing I love about the Pompeii video is how "Echoes" is split into two parts... I mean, it's an amazing song, I'd say Floyd have written a total of two songs that affect me more than Echoes, but I don't really have the attention span to listen to all 23 minutes at once (especially that interlude about the 12th minute "woooo....woooo....wooooooo" you know what I mean.

FOREVER PINK & GREEN
====================

I have to agree with those who call Live at Pompeii the greatest music video ever!

For all of the mainstream Floyd fans who haven't seen it, let me give you an idea of how moving it is:

A couple of years ago, I was trying to get my best friend W. to try smoking pot for the first time. He was totally anti-everything drug related, and he also hated Pink Floyd.

Well, one day I must have said the right words to him because he finally agreed to try it. I rolled a generous fatty from a large super-green bud that was given to me by another friend. I also recommended that he sit down and give Live at Pompeii a chance to change his mind about Floyd.

For the entire running time of the video he was completely mesmerized (I was too- the weed was killer!). He sat there quiet as a mouse, jaw wide open. Finally, after about the 3rd song he said, "This just keeps getting better and better!"

To this day he is still a big fan of both Pot and Pink. He even shelled out the money for a trip to Amsterdam so he could smoke down at the world famous "Pink Floyd" bar. Truly a life-changing experience!

Anonymous,

Again, please register so we know with whom we are speaking.

I don't know how world famous the Pink Floyd café in Amsterdam is, but it IS an excellent venue for all things Floyd and extra special for Floyd fans everywhere. They tended to play the Live at Pompeii Video at least once everyday - not that I spent much time in the place every day I was in Amsterdam...OKAY OKAY, I confess: I WAS there every day!

So they won't give you a discount if you're an offical, card-carrying fan club member, but hey...what more do you need?

Floyd hard!
Byron

And Bride of the Bull, if they choose to be Anonymous (or just type in the wrong password) it's entirely up to them.
We should reply to what's written.
