Re: SYD STORY

Ok lads (and lasses) I was in English the other day and our techer gave us the double lesson to write a 500 word story about anything we wanted it to be. A double lesson is an hour and a half for those of you who for some odd reason wouldn't know.
It took me 20 miutes to tell my tale (much to the dismay of my classmates who were still on their second or third line) After having read my story to myself I realised it was about none other than our very ownd Syd Barrett so I have decided to post it her and see what you think. I'm rather proud of it for some reason, maybe because it was so automatic... I don't know but just read it and see what you think..

“Where’s my wha?” yelled Rick.
“Look it’s already in the truck just hurry up!”

It had been a long day of rehearsals and writing new songs for Rick and his band. Anthony had been tripping the whole day and was of no use to the band. Rick and the rest of the boys were not only getting sick of it but they were also getting worried.

Anthony had talent, it was something no one had ever seen before. In fact it was probably Anthony’s drum playing that had propelled the band to relative stardom. If you could call it that. They were well known around the city and the rest of the country was fast discovering what Possibly Maybe were all about.

So yet another pub gig had rolled around and as per usual they were running late. Thanks to the trouble they had to go through just to get Anthony into the truck. His relatively long black hair fell over his eyes, which in recent months had lost their outlandish mischievous twinkle. I t was like turning off a light. All it took was one night of living like a rock star to forever lose Anthony. “Sex, drugs and rock and roll” to be exact.

It was after their first Eyelab gig. A twenty five minute drum solo had blown the then small audience away. And the girls stuck around. Rick’s apartment was the place to be and Jonas was the person to see if you wanted to get hooked up with… Let’s not beat around the bush, if you wanted good drugs for the night you stopped at Jonas’ at around say midnight.

So after the gig the lads decided to have a look at the night’s abundant collection of colourful substances. Everything from uppers, downers, screamers, laughers to things too hideous to even mention, was on offer.
(note the refference to Fear and Lathing in Las Vegas in that paragraph (uppers, downers, screamers, laughers)

Soon the group of about fifteen young “cool chilled out” people were sitting around in a circle on Rick’s living room floor. The sweet smell of incense was rising up through the air and filling the room. The irony of listening to the Eagles’ Hotel California was beginning to hit some of them.

Anthony being the best looking out of the four was naturally attracting the most attention. He already had a girl in his arms and the two were enjoying quietly sitting together and sipping their wine and taking their acid drops. The feeling Anthony got was something he had never experienced before. The world seemed to be spinning and the colours around him were tantalising, inciting him to be creative.

He took out his little notepad and began writing about his first trip. The one that was to seal all others.

Two hours later he grabbed the girls hand (from Rick’s recollection her name was Lucy) and slowly walked her into the bedroom where the two remained for the rest of the night. Only for the girl to emerge in the morning, her tear stained cheeks had lost the rosy charm of the night before.

Rick and the rest of the guys never found out what really happened in there, they weren’t really sure if they even wanted to know. They just knew that a day later when Anthony had finally come of his trip that he wasn’t the same again. He might have seemed perfectly normal to people who didn’t know him very well but over the next four or so weeks Anthony became impossible to work or live with. It was in a way a gradual thing yet it was also sudden. The more he used the more the afore mentioned twinkle in his eyes disappeared. And it was that night that the lads lost their friend forever.

hope u like it fellow Floydians

cheers

Re: SYD STORY

Good tale, well told.

And I'm dying to know what grade you got.

In my day - way hey, you young whipper-snappers - if I'd written such a thing, I would have been suspended.

Shine on!

Re: SYD STORY

Kind of like if you were to write something violent nowadays.

Though I think Sydney's story, even in the time when so much of that experimentation was going on--really should serve as a WARNING, not to encourage drug use. I would think it would have been well received back then, personally...or would DESERVE to be.

Anyway, Sydney, I hope it goes well, because that was very good.

BTW--Who is "Rick"?

Re: SYD STORY

Glad you like it lads!

BoaB: I would love to know what grade I got as well!!!!!

FW: Rick is.... I don't know who Rick is... you have to realise that I had no idea what I was writing until I finished it. I mean I knew what I was writing but I only realised what it was about once I'd read it... Maybe Rick is Rick, I really don't know. Make of it what you will...

cheers

Re: SYD STORY

Ah, well--it doesn't matter who he is. Good story there, and I really do hope you get a good grade for it!

Re: SYD STORY

Au contraire, I think it matters a GREAT deal, but for the purposes of Sydney's tale, we must assume that "Rick" is "'Rick'".

Re: SYD STORY

Sorry, Monty Syracuse, but to whom are you referring your remarks? You seem so busy being supercilious, one wonders whether you're critising the essay or someone's response thereto.

Oh, and are you not a fan of Pink Floyd music? If not, why the hell do you come here only to show your more arrogant side?

Re: SYD STORY

I've gotten inspiration for short stories from everything, and I mean everything. Who gives a damn if it based on Syd Barrett, it is a very good try for someone of Syd's age. I've read a lot worse based on "actual events".

Re: SYD STORY

Good story, Syd... although i am curious... did you ever find out what grade you got for it?

i thought it was one of those 'sad but true' stories...

drugs just stuff so many things up. kinda makes you wonder what the point is... short term gain for long term problems
