Re: Piper vs. Pepper

Piper is alright for us Pink Floyd fans.

But let's be realistic here. If I played it for most of my friends, they'd laugh at the "silly, meaningless" lyrics and nursery-rhyme like melodies. It's just the way it is.

As the mature Pink Floyd fan's that we are, we've come to appreciate it more and we know that there's something a little deeper there once you scratch the surface.

But there really is no comparison. Sgt. Pepper is timeless.

Re: Piper vs. Pepper

Exactly... yet ASOS clearly wouldn't stand up to Piper either for Floyd outsiders. But would the ravenously anti-Beatles factions on this board still vote against Pepper if it were in a deathmatch with the curiously unpolished meanderings of the 5-man Floyd?

Re: Piper vs. Pepper

Yeah i would say sgt peppers but piper its not bad at all, great music to be their first record, but guys sgt peppers its fine, but better is revolver, the white album, abbey road, those are real beatles albums, not even say Rubber Soul.
But another guy was saying that the beatles in 1964 were singiing I wanna Hold Your HAnd and in 1967 they were in Sgt Peppers. Floyd was doing almost the same, 1967 they were in Bike, astronomi domine and just 2 years they come along with Echos, so these guys were pretty good too.

Re: Piper vs. Pepper

I voted for the Piper At the gates Of Dawn. But, I only vote for it because I think it is really a very psychedelic album and I think Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band isn't very psychedelic and more pop sounding. If the poll was voting on which album is better musically with all the orchistrated stuff I would have voted for Pepper. But, The Piper At The gates Of Dawn is very much more psychedelic and I do consider syd's writing better than the stuff that Lennon, McCartney wrote for Pepper even though it is very well written.

PIPER for two reasons
1. I'm burnt out on the Beatles
2. Syd

One is good for leading objectionable vermin away, the other is a cracking sauce for steak. Where's the issue?

Re: Piper vs. Pepper

Although the Beatles sold much more records than Pink Floyd it is not a good measure of comparison because the chart not always elects the best artistic work.I started apreciating The Beatles when I listened to Help.I think that the band´s quality owes much more to John´s genious than to Paul´s winning. But talking about the importance of TPATGOD to the musical scene I must add that its influence remained through all Floyd´s career both themeticaly as musically.Sorry for those who praised The Beatles but it is obvious that Pink Floyd has a greater power of influence in all rock generations since they first begun playing.

Re: Piper vs. Pepper

I mean that I could notice more songwriting inspired by Pink Floyd than The Beatles,I could be wrong...I agree ,maybe this time I went too far.

Re: Piper vs. Pepper

i already voted for piper, but after carefully examining pepper as i did piper i can definitely say that piper is better. Within you without you, Lucy in the sky diamonds, and a day in the life are probably the greatest songs in the album but when u compare them to the songs of piper, piper seriously kicks tushie. We all know the two albums came out under the name of psychedelic rock. And i can easily now say piper way exceeds pepper in this field of rock. There are alot of greater indian styled songs than within you without you, so nothin special. A day in the life really isnt much psychedelic except when they make some noises in the world. As for Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, well that song is honestly one great song, very psychedelic and just great overall. But we all know piper is better down deep. its just not as commercialized.
