Guitar sound on SOYCD

I've been trying to figure out the exact (or similar) guitar effects when Gilmour comes in with his guitar in the very beginning of Shine On You Crazy Diamond. For effects, I have a Zoom 707II guitar effects pedal, could anyone help me out as to what settings I should play around with to achieve that sound? Thanks!

Great site - real thorough information, not quite what I was looking for though. Thanks anyway.

Re: Guitar sound on SOYCD

Hockey fan - here's what I do.
I got a Fender strat w/ texas special pups.
I play through a good tube head that's real clean.
I use the neck pick-up (Fattest one on the strat), roll back the treble on the guitar about halfway, add my Keeley compressor, and voila!! - pretty close. Now just play like you're a bad ass bluesman!!!

To get that tone you got to play it with real confidence and a strat on the sweet spots (which gilmour finds so damn well)..

Hope this helped..

If I'm using the Zoom 707 guitar pedal, is there some sort of effect on that that's similar to the Keeley? I don't have one, and am not quite familiar to what it does.

Re: Guitar sound on SOYCD

Hockyfan - The keeley unit is a compressor.
There are numerous descriptions on the web describing guitar compression. Do a search.
It basically smoothes everything out and gives great sustain on even a clean strat.

Re: Guitar sound on SOYCD

Not so high where your sound is "squashed" and lacking in any dynamics/feel in your playing. Just enough where you know it's doing something and then that's probably too much. Compression is tricky.....

Re: Guitar sound on SOYCD

Here's what my pedal has:

Isolator/Compression Module :

Compression-

Attack (choice of fast or slow) - adjusts time interval from signal onset to start of compression

Sens (setting range of 1-10) - adjusts compressor sensitivity

Level (setting range of 1-8) - adjusts signal level after passing module.

There is also an isolation module, let me know if that would apply. Regarding the above information on the settings, and advice on what those numbers/settings should be? Thanks.

Re: Guitar sound on SOYCD

I think that a good example of compressor use is the money solo in DSOTM studio
