Re: Hi , I'm a newbie

Hey Purple Mushroom, and welcome to the forums! Nice username, by the way!

It is cool to see you're listening to a not so obvious Floyd record such as Relics. As a matter of fact, Relics was kinda unreachable for a long time, since they only released a CD version a few years ago and the vynil/tape versions were out of print for a long time.

The songs you mention are also very different from the usual hits. "The Nile Song", for instance, sounded to me the first time I heard it, like anything but Pink Floyd. "More" in general sounded not like the Floyd I was used to hear, and now it is one of my favorite records. I specially like "Crying Song", "Cymbaline" (which was a Floyd favorite at the time, they played it in about every concert they had) and "A Spanish Piece". I think "More" has more of a hard-rock feeling to it, specially songs like "The Nile Song". Definately something people should listen to if they haven't yet.

Cheers,
Paulo

Re: Hi , I'm a newbie

Hi there,
Please excuse my bad manners as this is my 3rd posts and i havent introduced myself Iam as you say a newbie to the floyd scene,

the reason im replying to this thread is that Relics was the first floyd album i was given (its on the Music for pleasure label and has the cover artwork drawn by Nick Mason not like the cover i see in discography pages though) on it are some of (to my taste in music) the best material they have done, you really do forget how good vinyl does sound, its a shame that im going to have to rip it to cd and store the album for safe keeping (I also have Piper on vinyl but my other 2 albums are on cd)
