Re: Wright on drugs?

I believe that Roger's ultimatum to the band was that either Rick left or he would take The Wall and go off in a big sulk. As they were on the verge of bankruptcy at the time Rick had no option but to pack his keyboards and leave. He performed The Wall gigs as a hired hand on a wage and as such he reckons he was the only one of them to make any money from the gigs. He only rejoined the band during the making of AMLOR.
But this is, of course, a well documented story, maybe you should brush up on your Pink Floyd history Melkor old chum.

Re: Wright on drugs?

Also, even Rick Wright says that he was unable to do quality work at the time of The Wall, because he was so affected by Roger. (Specifics left out, as they're well known).

ahem

in reading 2 interviews with Roger and Dave, I foung that they fired Rick because he wasn't "pulling his weight"in studio. He had gone to Greece during the recording of the wall. Apparently, Dave also wanted to fire Nick at the time, but since Nick and Rog were "friends" it didn't happen. And Melkhor, when Rick returned to the band, he was still on contract making an hourly wage.

Re: Wright on drugs?

I know a guy, who I would describe as a 'head roadie', anyway, when Floyd were in Australia for AMLOR tour he was working with them, he tells me that they had a 'Lapse of Reason' (who gets the most wasted) trophey every night they were there, and Rick won every night, bar one, which this guy won.

I'm not saying thats 100% true but thats what I was told.

Re: Wright on drugs?

Sure it wasn't for 'most asymetrical face', 'sleeves most awkwardly rolled up' or even 'luckiest lounge player going'?

Re: Wright on drugs?

"luckiest lounge player going" -- classic. all in all though rumours were rampant that Rick had a taste for cocaine. and why should that be so hard to believe? he was a musician during the late 70's early 80's. has anyone ever seen the movie Blow? that is when cocaine took the music scene by storm, not to mention if you were to look at it from the perspective of those times cocaine want even really viewed as that bad of a drug. so do I believe that Rick did cocaine, sure. I have also suspicions that Roger had done some cocaine in his time, I have an interview of Roger where there can be heard some strange sniffing in the background. the point is I dont think thats what the big deal was. rumour was that Rick was borrowing money and stuff like that, but as has been said -- rumours are just that, rumour. but to say that musicians in the 80's did coke, well duh of course they did. as to why Rog did what he did, who knows we can only speculate

Re: Wright on drugs?

Did you see what Rick was wearing during Pompeii?

He must have been off his head, frankly

Re: Wright on drugs?

I read somewhere (cant remember where) Rick saying that Roger never really took drugs, only achohol, I think he mentioned him and David doing drugs occasionally 'socially' I think it was in the special Floyd addition of Mojo.

Re: Wright on drugs?

I think alot of people like to think its about drugs, just like they like to think most of Pink Floyds music was fueled by drugs, it isnt and it wasnt but people like to think these things, cant really see why.
