Playing slide, which Ive been at for about ten yrs (playing for 30 as well) takes precisely the same amount of delicacy and timing as does bending and not losing pitch, I'm no speed demon when it comes to fingering or staccato picking but then again this was never my bag and so never practised it. Every style has it's dificulties but it will always come down to taste, and as far as riffmeisters go Keef isdaman

Sabbath is great, and i think Iommi is a brilliant guitar player. He does have some great solo's out there.

I bought Paranoid today, it was recorded kinda flatly, but that was the way one did it in the early '70s. It's an okay album, I thought it would be a lot heavier, but it'll probably grow on me (like a lot of music does).

yeah, that was my initial reaction when i first got paranoid - the production didnt really bring it to life. But once you get used to it, the music really creeps up on you. Sabbath are great.

As for the Gilmour-Iommi debate, i agree that they are two different styles (although both of them started as blues players). I would just like to mention, however, that I think the true extent of Iommi's talents may not be known by everyone. He's played (and i assume written) some very nice classical guitar pieces (i.e. Embryo, Orchid, Fluff). I always got the impression that he could do a lot more than what he was given room for in the Sabbath.
As for his soloing, although i agree Gilmour has that X-Factor that might separate him from a player like Iommi, there are still some Iommi solos and guitar parts that can send a shiver up my spine such us Heaven and Hell, War Pigs.

I'm giving it another spin right now, maybe my car's crap stereo had something to do with it (listening on my nice home stereo now).

What a beautiful day it was yesterday to get all my dusty old Sabbath albums out. I hadn't listened to them for years. And i came to the conclusion that Sabbath is still great. My favourite album right now has to be Sabotage, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath being a close second. But they have released so much class stuff like; Master of Reality, Paranoid or of course their self titled debut which basically started heavy metal.
