Is it true, as I've read, that Dave picked bits from different recordings of the CN solo and strung together what he thought would sound the best? If so, I'd have to rank that pretty low.

And yet even if that's true, you've got to hand it to him for being able to pull off some stunning solos in live performance, which proves he's definitely got the skills.

It's not like the time I laid down this one track, playing guitar, and then had to go in on the WAV editor and remove all the numerous pauses and glitches I made while I was playing. In that case I used the computer to cover for my total lack of guitar skills (which is what happens when you try to teach a keyboardist to play a stringed instrument--immediate brain-lock). But in the case of David Gilmour, I know that he is not covering for lack of skills, and that he's in fact quite capable, which is why I'd still cut him some slack if that were proven true.

It's still a bloated boring peice of shit, kept alive only by the hauntingly eerie lyrics.

Technically, I'll give Time the vote. It's a bit more complex, better played, and a damn great song too. But emotionally, Comfortably Numb is the one. I don't know, I get really hopeful hearing Dave's solo on that. So, in conclusion to that, I value emotion over technicality any day. That's why I like Comfortably Numb better.

Time. It's so powerful. More powerful than CN. Because after the solo the song goes on and just keeps climaxing, rather than ending with the solo like CN

While I agree I have traditionally viewed the solos on Time and CN as among the greatest of all time, the magic disappeared a little when I learned to play them. Dogs, on the other hand, I still haven't figured out so it still has that magic feel.

I'm not sure I agree with Jane_Doe. Both carry the emotion, but CN carries a full minor scale and Time is just pentatonic.

From a powerful emotion standpoint, I don't discount Money or Pigs either.

there's nothing wrong with pentatonic. Half of classic rock is.
