Re: Question For The Experts

Okay, here are some clues from the actual video if anyone has watched 60's videos from Floyd. The beginning of the video starts with a spoken intro from Frank Zappa and then it cuts to Rogers Waters lip syncing to the song in a red silhouette. In fact, most of the video is Roger Waters and the group in a silhouette of red. It has the true look of a promo and not of a live performance. Plus, I hear no audience anywhere in the video. But who knows. Is Live At Pompeii available on home video? I can never listen to the soft ending again. I must have the hard, psychedelic rage that concluded the video (I guess now you know why it inspired my earlier analogy). Doesn't anyone get VH1 Classic? That's where I found this video along with a number of other Floyd promos like Arnold Layne.

I certainly meant no harm to the earlier responder. I am so used to immediately getting definitive responses when I ask music or video questions in fan forum message boards. Most fans of particular artists are so intense in their interest that they can immediately identify anything thrown at them. This room completely through me off guard. Am I the only person who has this video?

Re: Question For The Experts

I have good and bad news. Good news is that someone from another Pink Floyd message board told me it was indeed the video of the Live At Pampeii performance that I was watching. Bad news is that I immediately went searching for a CD of this performance and came up with nothing. Am I going to have to listen to the dull sounding mono audio from the video for the rest of my life? That's like saying you can only have sex for the rest of your life through a plastic sheet (sorry for the crude analogy again!).

Re: Question For The Experts

Live at Pompeii is being released in DVD (already has been in some countries).

No need to apologise for the analogies...they're amusing.

Re: Question For The Experts

Unfortunately, the DVD will probably contain the same mono recording from the video release. Drats! But I'll still buy it. Would you happen to know the release date?

Re: Question For The Experts

In the USA? No, no idea.

Here's a discussion from another thread on this site...they might say something about US release date there...I couldn't be bothered trawling through it myself

Re: Question For The Experts

Thanks for the defense, guys and dolls, but I took no offense with sarababe's response. She/he knows very well to what she/he's referring but if the idea is not put across clearly enough, misunderstandings will surely occur.

As to sarababe's query, I have the performance to which she/he refers introduced by Frank Zappa. This version is on VH1's Pink Floyd Weekend and the video length is just 2minutes47seconds long but without a very long middle bit and indeed a dramamtic ending though foreshortened.

They don't appear to be performing this version in Pompeii, but instead appear to be in an auditorium on a stage atop a classic Roman archway set. Of course Pompeii footage could have been added or pasted in, but it doesn't look like they're lip-syching to me. As Rabid Monkey truly implies, I am often wrong.

Re: Question For The Experts

The footage she is talking about actually originated from a film about 60's music called All My Loving.

According to brain Damage the USA/Canada release date of Pompeii is 21 October. And it's Stereo Dolby Digital, as well as the Dark Side DVD.

Re: Question For The Experts

Regardless, I'm afraid sarababe is doomed for disappointment with the ending of the Pompeii performance...Although it's the best of the lot, it has no orgasmic finish to it.

Re: Question For The Experts

Thanks for the continued information. Doomed for disappointment is correct since no one mentioned that this particular performance with the orgasmic ending is available on CD. It appears I will suffer a life without complete satisfaction when it comes to hearing the superior sounding, ultimate version of this song. How depressing. But thanks for giving it to me straight.
