Barenaked Ladies

My wife's favorite band. For many years I would never give this band the time of day and slammed them every chance I got. I had only heard a few of their songs, but was never really willing to give them a proper listen.

Well....A few weeks ago I finally gave in and gave them a proper listen. Now I'm friggin' hooked on them. It's about all I've been listening too these past few weeks(besides some PM5K). I'n not sure what it is about them I find so attractive now. I love a lot of the lyrics though, and that is what usually draws me to listen to a band.

Anyways, what do you all think about them. If you haven't really heard them(besides some of the more over-played stuff on radio), I'd be more then happy to reccomend songs.

I like 'em. They are a very good all around band with some very clever lyrics. The thing I can appreciate about them is that I can share that music wth my 12 year old daughter without worrying about lyrical content. And a lot of it is just plain funny.. those guys have a messed up sense of humor (like me).

I just love "If I had a Million Dollars".. great tune, and Call and Answer..

Last winter I actually saw them in Hershey. Wasn't much of a fan, but damn, they changed my mind in person.

Yeah I've been somewhat of a BNL fan for a few years. At first, they really seem like just another dime-a-dozen "pop" band, but they are actually quite unique. Just fun to listen to. I find the lyrics are also quite good...started off with Stunt, then got Rock Spectacle (very good starting point), and recently got Maroon. Good band!

I've actually seen them twice this year and will be seeing them again next month. They are a very entertaining live band.

After hearing the Universal show all I can say is, see ya Steve, have fun with another crappy solo album. Ed is the man.

Well, I have the great pleasure of working with Steve this season at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival. In fact, right now we're in a recording studio tracking the music he's composed for a Ben Jonson play. I'll be sure to tell him you said that!

Re: Barenaked Ladies

Knock yourself out. No matter what he says, he'll regret leaving. He's a smug bastard anyways. Sure, I'll miss the guy. He was great when he was on, but he just seemed to not have his heart in it the last few albums. Anyways, somehow I doubt Steve would give two shits about what I have to say, just like when I talked to him in person. He should know he's lost quite a few fans over this.

If that's true, were I in his position, it'd just make me focused on the opportunity to win people over by playing shows this summer, releasing new stuff, answering more calls for work in the theatre, etc. It's rare to be able to make a good living doing stuff you feel passionate about.

That said, I have nothing but love for the four guys left in BNL, who are giving it their all, and I'm sure you'll find me at their shows too. Every great band is more than the sum of its parts.

Re: Barenaked Ladies

Don't get me wrong, I honestly love Steve Page. As a matter of fact, I had a band for many years wich was a Green Jelloish sort of a joke band and I disbanded it because Steve influenced me so much, I wanted to do more of what he was doing. Sure, I didn't like his solo album, but I did buy it. I did listen. And you can bet your ass I'll buy his next one and hope for the best. He really is amazing, I'm just dissapointed in him, for more than leaving BNL. I'll certainly see him live as well. I do honestly wish him nothing but the best. I'm just an on and off angry StevePage fan, and I'm sure he'd understand that.
