Re: I bought The Final Cut! and got pissed off...

Obviously, I was not here to see the many posts that went on last night. Let me say that I too apologize. While I have certain views about certain things politically, none of them repre3sent my feelings for an individual. Though _archer apparently felt that they did. I am apologizing not for my views but for the way I reacted when it came to defending my views. I now realize that I was coarse and probably offensive, and said some things that didn't pertain to the matter at hand. I apologize for such behavior. My biggest mistake was not ignoring an insult thrown my way, as I am sure that _archer will agree to the same since I too, threw some insults. I will not try to defend myself or come up with an excuse for my behavior rather I will simply walk away, hoping that such discourse does not happen again.

Thank You.

Thank You Not Now John.
I'm extremely happy that both of you were mature enough (nevermind your age  )
to put this behind you.

I make a toast to much more great floydian discussions on this awesome forum!

So keep it real,
and thanks for apologizing!
Yes and your absolutely correct - it wasn't necesarily your opinions (both of you) it was your actions.

But enough from me - go listen to floyd!

Cheers,
Patrick

Re: I bought The Final Cut! and got pissed off...

As our favourite band can write about pretty deep and heavy subject matter, with lyrics that can take some interpretion, it is not surprising that people want to debate in some depth.

At risk of going off topic, way back on April 14, Paulo mentioned that "It's a Miracle" refers to a Brazilian growing a tree. I had always interpretted this as a reference to the Earth Summit in Rio some years ago, when the tree of pledges became a symbol of the conference. Or is my memory playing tricks on me ???

Re: I bought The Final Cut! and got pissed off...

I said it thousand times and I say it again - TFC is KILLED by Rog's singing abilities (well, unabilities in fact !).
With other vocalist (and you know who I mean) album would sound better. But not much.

TFC isn't a bad album IMHO, but you're right, Roger's vocal abilities are very limited, and that's what sucks about TFC.

I don't know...I listen for something different in Mr. Waters' vocals. It is hard to describe, but when I listen to his singing, I am not listening to a musician, but to a storyteller or bard or something like that. Does that make any sense at all?

Re: I bought The Final Cut! and got pissed off...

It does make sense FW, and I think I quite understand what you mean.
But his voice just hurts my ears, it's un-pleasant and I'd say, too hysteric for me (being a fan of such great voices as David Sylvian and Scott Walker).
Just an opinion, though.

It's nothing if not expressive, though, I'm sure you'd all agree.

I hate that American sounding shit he tries to pull off on Radio KAOS, though. He sounds like a fanny or, at the very least, latterday Mick Jagger.

Re: I bought The Final Cut! and got pissed off...

To me, the only unpleasant thing about Mr. Waters' singing is the nasty looks I get when I try to imitate it. Imagine a voice that most closely compares to Mr. Wright trying to render Mr. Waters' singing! YUCK!

I taped myself once and played it back. YUCK!

But I like Mr. Waters' singing. My voice and his just don't get along.

Re: I bought The Final Cut! and got pissed off...

I was listening to Wish You Were Here last night...in particular Shine On You Crazy Diamond, it being the only song that Rog sings audibly. (I know he does some vocals on Welcome to the Machine, but he's kinda almost whispering and Dave drowns him out) But, anyway, I've noticed that even though he sings it (and Brain Damage, and Eclipse, and the latter half of Dogs, etc) very well, you can still hear flashes (threats, maybe?) of the operatic, high-register, teeth-rattling wail heard on The Wall and TFC. Don't get me wrong, I love his voice either way. But, anyway, I think SOYCD is the nearest thing to the Wall/Final Cut style, I mean before the Wall. You dig?

Maybe not.

Re: I bought The Final Cut! and got pissed off...

I bought Amused to Death last week. I couldn't believe that it was Roger. I don't know about anyone else, but I thought they were the worst vocals in anything Pink Floyd related music that I'd heard. I don't like it at all.
