Re: Favorite Recipies

Pickett was a friend of Abe? I didn't know that.

The "Shad bake" sounds scrumptous.

I've decided for baked fish simply use Shake N Bake & forget it.

Re: Favorite Recipies

Well, from what I've read about the American Civil War, Abe paid a visit to his old friend, Pickett, at his house after the war, but the General wasn't around. But his wife answered the door, with a baby in her arms. The baby supposedly gave Abe a dewey baby kiss and Abe supposedly told the baby:

"Tell your father, the rascal, that I forgive him for your Mothers blue eyes and your smile" (or something like that).

I read this in a book called "War, terrible War", which was part of a whole series of books "A History of US" by Joy Hakim, which I purchased when I visited a museum in the US about 1995.

Interesting story. I learn something every day.

Well, he did visit "liberated" Richmond, Virginia. After visiting the Confederate "White" house (I forget the name) and sitting in Davis' chair, He is even quoted as saying:

"Now I feel that we have truly won the war"

Most of what I quote is from memory. I read that book almost a good 8 years ago. So it maynot be word-to-word exact. Sorry

Well, now that shad is so imprinted in my head, I really want to try some

Re: Favorite Recipies

Here's a recipe straight from my LiveJorunal (please visit the link!):

Here's how to make a Bloody Mary if you're Mixology-Illiterate:

Fill a tall glass with ice.
Pour in a drop or three of Tabasco to taste.
Add pepper, and celery salt to taste.
Add a good dash of Worcestershire sauce.
Add a splash of lemon or lime juice.
Add 1 1/2 oz. quality Vodka.
Fill with tomato juice.
Stir thoroughly.
Garnish with a celery stick, and lime wedge.

Tips:

Use the freshest and highest quality ingredients you can.
Experiment with the quantities to get the perfect blend for you.
Get creative with garnishes. Jalapenos, Tom olives, cold boiled shrimp, dill pickle spears, dilled green beans all make great garnishes.

Man I love Bloody Marys...

Speaking of 'ass on fire' ...I'm getting my taste buds all worked up for a curry at my favourite restaurant. Many people in the world may be unaware that curry has deposed haggis as the Scottish national dish. It's a kind of a macho thing in these parts to go for as hot a curry as your taste buds can stand. This is no problemat all to an old Bengal Lancer like myself, who can wolf down a vindaloo without any ill effects. The following day is another story ( think Johnny Cash -Ring of Fire)..and one can see the reason for it being named Gandhi's revenge!

I noticed on my visits to the States that there weren't many Curry Houses? Has curry hit the USA yet?
