I had chicken vindaloo for dinner tonight, I'd eat curry every day if I thought my sphincter could stand the strain!

Re: Favorite Recipies

A really simple, yet extremely effective personal cake recipe (with no butter) is as follows:

X eggs
X ounces of flour (any kind, it doesn't seem to matter)
X ouces of sugar
any toppings/fillings you desire, from jelly to ice cream to chocolate sauce to strawberrys with cream

(X varies with how much cake you want to make, X=6 would be enough to feed 5 people)

Simply seperate the egg whites and yolks into two seperate bowls, mix the sugar into the yolk thoroughly, then mix in the flour.
With that whip up the whites until they're almost solid, then add the whites to the previous mixture and mix gently (you don't want to release the air stored in the whites) until the mix is uniform in smoothness.
Then pour into cake form and cook at 175 degrees for 30 minutes.
Then add whatever toppings you desire.
The resultant cake has a very satisfying spongy texture without the slimy texture of butter, IMO it tastes much better than the standard-fare cake, I thoroughly recommend it to ammeteur cooks across the forum.

Re: Favorite Recipies

I've resurrected this thread for totally self-serving reasons. Anyone know of any Russian dishes?

Recipes would be nice, but even just the name of the dishes and a description would be nice too.

Tandoori is food cooked in a Tandoor.

tandoor -- a large clay oven sunk into the ground and layered with glowing charcoal.

Traditional tandoors are rare, even in India (though they are a lot more prevelant in Persia). However, traditional tandoors give the BEST Kulchas, Fulkas, Rumalis and Naans (types of bread. They look a lot like Tortillas).

A few examples of Tandoori dishes:

- Machali Masala (grilled breaded salmon steaks marinated in olive oil, lemon juice, herbs, and spices)
- Achari Kababs (lamb marinated in pickling spices, onions, and vinegar)
- Thayir Pachadi (cucumber with grilled potatoes, onions, and tomatoes in yogurt)

Sydney: Any idea from which part of India is he from? Even better would be if you could find out from which State I can recommend some excellent stuff to expect

NNJ: I'll ask around. Any specifics you are looking for? (for example, dishes with bread or maybe potato based dishes or meat ones?)
